Processing methods and apparatuses for video data of a color component comprise receiving input data associated with a current coding block (CB) in a current slice, where the video data is partitioned into multiple CBs according to a partitioning method. A Quantization Parameter (QP) minimum block area or a depth flag is determined and an area of the current CB according to a width and a height or a combined depth of the current CB is calculated and compared with the QP minimum block area or the depth flag. Signaling of QP information for the current CB is conditioned by the comparing result. The QP information for the current CB is used to quantize a residual signal of the current CB or recovering a quantized residual signal of the current CB.
Abstract:
A method processes video data by intra prediction in a video coding system. In one implementation, the method receives input data associated with a current block in a current picture, wherein the current block is a non-square block and is coded or to be coded by intra prediction. The method then determines a first set of angular intra prediction modes for the longer side of the current block, wherein a number of the first set of the angular intra prediction modes is greater than a number of a second set of angular intra prediction modes for the shorter side of the current block. The method then determines a current intra prediction mode to derive an intra predictor for the current block, and encodes or decoding the current block according to the current intra prediction mode.
Abstract:
A method for a video encoder or decoder using an Intra Block Copy (IntraBC) mode is disclosed. If IntraBC mode is enabled and no loop filter is used for a current picture, a currently decoded reference picture for the current picture is marked as a long-term reference picture before and during decoding of the current picture. The currently decoded reference picture is assigned in reference picture list construction for IntraBC reference of the current picture and buffer fullness for the DPB is calculated before starting decoding the current picture by taking into account of only one reference picture buffer. According to another method, if the maximum DPB size is 1, a variable or a syntax element is set to a target value to impose restriction to use only one picture storage buffer in the DPB to store reference picture for encoding or decoding of a current picture.

An intra prediction method comprises receiving input data of a current block in a current picture, determines a current mode set including multiple intra prediction modes for the current block, derives a number of MPMs from the number of intra prediction modes in the current mode set, and determines the MPMs for the current block. The number of MPMs varies with the number of intra prediction modes in the current mode set. The method encodes or decodes the current block according to a current intra prediction mode selected from the current mode set. To process a non-square block, a current mode set is selected from multiple mode sets according to one or both of a longer side and a shorter side of the non-square block. A current intra prediction mode is selected from the current mode set and the non-square block is coded according to the current intra prediction mode.

A method and apparatus for video coding using template-based Intra prediction are disclosed. According to one method, where determining whether to apply the template-based Intra prediction or one or more parameters associated with the template-based Intra prediction depends on the current block size. According to yet another method, the quad-tree plus binary tree (QTBT) structure is used to partition an image or one or more areas of the current image into blocks. If the template-based Intra prediction is used for a current block and the current block is non-square, the width and height of the L-shaped reference pixel line are determined according to width and height of the current block. The L-shaped reference pixel line comprises a top reference pixel segment above the top template and a left reference pixel segment adjacent to a left side of the left template.

Aspects of the disclosure provide an apparatus for encoding a sequence of pictures into a coded bit stream. The apparatus can include a decoded picture buffer (DPB) configured to store reference pictures, at least one of the reference pictures being an interpolated reference picture (IRP), an interpolation circuit configured to generate the IRP based on the reference pictures stored in the DPB, an encoding circuit configured to encode a current picture in the sequence of pictures based on a value of a variable indicating whether the current picture is to be encoded using the IRP, and an encoding controller configured to determine the value of the variable according to a size of DPB and the reference pictures stored in the DPB.

A method of palette coding to apply the palette coding to sub-blocks of a coding unit and to allow each sub-block to use an individual palette table is disclosed. If the current coding block is not partitioned, the palette coding is applied to the current coding block using a first palette. If the current coding block is partitioned into multiple sub-blocks, the palette coding is applied to each sub-block using an individual second palette. Each sub-block may correspond to one prediction unit (PU). In another embodiment of the present invention, a method is disclosed that skips update of palette predictor such as last coded palette table, last coded palette size and palette predictor size associated with the current coding block if the current palette size is smaller than or equal to palette update size.
