Abstract: A method of video coding using generalized bi-prediction (GBi) receives input data associated with a current block in a current picture, wherein the input data comprises information associated with a block size of the current block, determines a set of weighting factor pairs, wherein a size of the set of weighting factor pairs depends on the block size of the current block, and derives a set of advanced motion vector prediction (AMVP) candidate lists comprising MVP (motion vector prediction) candidates. The method further derives a set of final motion information based on the MVP candidates, determines that the set of final information comprises a bi-prediction predictor, generates a final predictor by combining two reference blocks associated with the final motion information using a target weighting factor pair selected from the set of weighting factor pairs, and encodes or decoding the current block using the final predictor.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide a method for non-local adaptive loop filtering. The method can include receiving reconstructed picture, dividing the picture into current patches, forming patch groups each including a current patch and a number of reference patches, determining a noise level for each of the patch groups, and denoising the patch groups with a non-local denoising technology. The determining a noise level for each of the patch groups can include calculating a pixel variance for a respective patch group, determining a pixel standard deviation (SD) of the respective patch group according to the calculated pixel variance by searching in a lookup table that indicates mapping relationship between patch group pixel SDs and patch group pixel variances, and calculating a noise level for the respective patch group based on a compression noise model that is a function of the pixel SD.

Abstract: In one implementation, a method operates by receiving neighboring reconstructed first-color pixels and current reconstructed first-color pixels of a current first-color block and receiving neighboring reconstructed second-color pixels of a current second-color block collocated with the current first-color block. The method then determines linear model (LM) parameters according to a linear model for one or more LM Intra modes. The method then receives input data associated with current second-color pixels of the current second-color block and generates a cross-color Intra predictor from the current reconstructed first-color pixels of the current first-color block using the LM parameters associated with a LM Intra mode selected from said one or more LM Intra modes. Finally, the method applies cross-color Intra prediction encoding or decoding to the current second-color pixels of the current second-color block using the cross-color Intra predictor for the selected LM Intra mode.

Abstract: Video encoding methods and apparatuses include receiving reconstructed video samples, determining an initial clipping setting for ALF coefficients, deriving clipping setting candidates from the initial clipping setting. ALF coefficients for the initial clipping setting and the clipping setting candidates are derived by solving inverse matrices, where partial intermediate results of solving ALF coefficients are shared by two or more clipping settings. A distortion value corresponds to the derived ALF coefficients for each clipping setting is computed, and final clipping indices for final ALF coefficients are determined according to the distortion values. ALF filtering is applied to the reconstructed video samples based on the final ALF coefficients and the final clipping indices.

Abstract: A video processing method for a video encoder or decoder comprises receiving input data of a current block, determining an intra prediction mode and reference samples according to the intra prediction mode, determining an intra reference sample filter from a Gaussian interpolation filter and an alternative interpolation filter for the current block, applying the intra reference sample filter to the reference samples to generate an intra predictor for the current block, and encoding or decoding the current block based on the intra predictor. A determination between the Gaussian and alternative interpolation filters is depending on a comparison of a mode difference value calculated by the intra prediction mode with a size-dependent threshold. The size-dependent threshold is set to be equal to 24 for blocks with block size smaller than or equal to 32 samples according to an embodiment. The alternative interpolation filter may be a DCT-IF interpolation filter.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of Inter prediction for video coding using a target Merge mode comprising a triangle Merge mode are disclosed. According to this method, a current block is partitioned into a first region and a second region using the target partition. A candidate list is determined. Two candidates are determined for the two regions by deriving two target candidates from the candidate list. When a selected target candidate is a uni-prediction candidate, the selected target candidate is used as one candidate; and when the selected target candidate is a bi-prediction candidate, motion information associated of the selected target candidate with List 0 or List 1 is used as one candidate. The current block or current motion information associated with the current block is encoded or decoded according to the candidate list. The candidate list is used to derive the first candidate and the second candidate.
