Abstract:
A method for estimating extracorporeal blood volume in at least a portion of a physical sample. A feature is extracted from an image of the physical sample. The extracorporeal blood volume in the portion of the physical sample is estimated. The estimation may be based on the extracted feature and at least one of the estimated distance and the estimated angle between a capture origin of the image and the portion of the physical sample based on a returned signal transmitted from a distance sensor. The estimated extracorporeal blood volume may be displayed on a display, such an augmented reality overlay in which the image of the portion of the physical sample is displayed with at least one of the estimated extracorporeal blood volume or a sample counter. The sample counter may be indexed for the physical sample after estimating the extracorporeal blood volume.

Abstract:
A system performs a method for processing an image of a machine-readable code. The method includes receiving an image of a machine-readable code comprising coded information, where the machine-readable code is at least partially obscured by a substance that has a predominant color; generating an adjusted image by adjusting a color space of the image based on the predominant color; binarizing at least a machine-readable code region of the image, wherein the machine-readable code region of the image depicts the machine-readable code; and decoding the binarized machine-readable code region to determine the coded information. Other apparatus and methods are also described.

Abstract:
A method and system for communicating estimated blood loss parameters of a patient to a user, the method comprising: receiving data representative of an image, of a fluid receiver; automatically detecting a region within the image associated with a volume of fluid received at the fluid receiver, the volume of fluid including a blood component; calculating an estimated amount of the blood component present in the volume of fluid based upon a color parameter represented in the region, and determining a bias error associated with the estimated amount of the blood component; updating an analysis of an aggregate amount of the blood component and an aggregate bias error associated with blood loss of the patient, based upon the estimated amount of the blood component and the bias error; and providing information from the analysis of the aggregate amount of the blood component and the aggregate bias error, to the user.
Abstract:
A method and system for assessing an amount of a blood component of a volume of fluid within a canister, the method comprising: receiving an image of the canister generated by the image acquisition device; selecting a first region of the image exhibiting substantially uniform color, wherein the first region of the image corresponds to a layer of fluid situated between a wall of the canister and a first feature of an insert retained in position within the canister; determining a color parameter representative of the first region; determining a concentration of a blood component within the canister, based upon the color parameter; upon determining the volume of fluid of fluid within the canister, generating an analysis informative of an amount of the blood component within the canister; and providing information derived from the analysis to an entity associated with an individual from whom the volume of fluid originated.

Abstract:
A system and method for assessing the concentration of a fluid component within a container, the method comprising: receiving data associated with an image of the canister; from the image, detecting a color grid comprising color elements coupled to the canister,; selecting a region of the image corresponding to a portion of the canister; determining a match between a detected color of the region and a shade in the set of colors associated with the color grid captured in the image; based upon a position of a color element corresponding to the shade in the color grid, retrieving a concentration of the blood component associated with the shade of color.
Abstract:
A method for analyzing a surgical textile. A depth image and a color image of the surgical textile is acquired. One or more processors analyze a depth map of the depth image to apply one or more image classifiers. Blood information is extracted from pixels of the color image if the depth image satisfies the classifier(s). The classifier(s) may be a perimeter classifier, a planarity classifier, a normality classifier, a distance classifier, and/or a color classifier, among others. The distance classifier may include transforming pixel dimensions of a selected surface in the depth image into real dimensions based on distance values of the pixels. A graphical representation may be displayed to indicate the need to move the surgical textile closer or farther to satisfy the distance classifier. A prompt may be displayed to manipulate the surgical textile prior to the steps of acquiring the depth image and the color image.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for estimating a blood volume within a canister. The system may include means for detecting a fluid level of the fluid, such as a float sensor mechanism disposed within the canister. An imaging device captures an image of the fluid within the canister. A processor determines an estimated concentration of a blood component in the fluid based on the image. The processor determines a canister volume of the fluid based on the detected fluid level, and estimates the blood volume within the canister based on the estimated concentration of the blood component and the determined canister volume. The processor may trigger the imaging device to capture the image based on a change in the canister volume. An insert may be arranged within the canister and positioned adjacent to and offset from a transparent region of the canister.
