Abstract: An apparatus may determine whether to indicate a beam failure recovery request to a base station using a contention-free RACH procedure with a dedicated preamble when the UE is timing unsynchronized with the base station. The apparatus may perform, when the apparatus is timing unsynchronized with the base station, the contention-free RACH procedure with the dedicated preamble to indicate the beam failure recovery request when the beam failure recovery request is determined to be indicated to the base station using the contention-free RACH procedure with the dedicated preamble. The apparatus may perform, when the apparatus is timing unsynchronized with the base station, a contention-based RACH procedure to indicate the beam failure recovery request when the beam failure recovery request is undetermined to be sent to the base station using the contention-free RACH procedure with the dedicated preamble.

Abstract: Aspects are provided which enhance Mode 2 multi-TRP operation by allowing a UE to recover and reconfigure a failed PDCCH beam of a first TRP in a serving cell by using a second TRP which still has a working PDCCH in the same serving cell. If the first TRP undergoes beam failure but the second TRP in the same cell has an operational beam, the UE may send a beam failure indication indicating a new beam for the PDCCH of the first TRP. The base station comprising the second TRP may then reconfigure the PDCCH serving beams of the first TRP based on the beam failure indication. The reliability of a serving cell may thus be increased.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications in a multiple bandwidth part environment are described. In response to a serving beam failure in an active bandwidth part, the UE may determine a level of support provided by the active bandwidth part for a random access procedure, and may determine a contingency (e.g. fallback) bandwidth part that supports the random access procedure. In some cases, the UE may identify the contingency bandwidth as an initial bandwidth part used by the UE for a prior random access procedure. In some cases, the base station may send to the UE, an explicit indication of the contingency bandwidth part. In some cases, the UE may identify the contingency bandwidth part based on a reference signal. Upon determining the contingency bandwidth part, the UE may perform the random access procedure using the contingency bandwidth part.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may be configured to receive a broadcast message from a base station, the broadcast message including an indication pertaining to system information for reduced-capability UEs including UEs with a bandwidth capability below a threshold, the UE being a reduced-capability UE. The UE may determine, based on the indication in the broadcast message, whether system information for reduced-capability UEs is scheduled to be broadcast by the base station. The UE may then obtain the system information for reduced-capability UEs in accordance with the indication in the broadcast message.

Abstract: In an aspect, a slave UE and a master UE each establish an attachment to a core network of a cellular communications system. The slave UE obtains security credentials configured to encrypt and decrypt traffic between the slave UE and the core network. A D2D connection is established between the slave UE and the master UE (e.g., tethering). One or more communication functions are offloaded from the slave UE to the master UE, including at least one communication function with the core network for maintaining the attachment of the slave UE to the core network. Application-layer data is relayed to/from the slave UE over the D2D connection. In an aspect, either the slave UE or the master UE may perform encryption and decryption of control plane signaling using the slave UE's security credentials.

Abstract: In one aspect, a method of wireless communication includes receiving, by a user equipment (UE), a preconfigured uplink resource (PUR) configuration message indicating a PUR configuration for small data transmissions. Abstract: Wireless communication devices, systems, and methods related to mechanisms to implement improved RAR decoding performance and resource utilization efficiency in a RACH procedure. A PDCCH with common search space encodes a DCI with configuration information that schedules separate PDSCHs for different UEs/UE groups. When sending a RAR message, the PDCCH includes a DCI with a configuration field to signal multiple DMRS resources with corresponding PDSCH. Each sub-field of the configuration field may include one or multiple bits. When one bit per sub-field, the bit is a flag that when asserted leads the UE to blind decode the PDSCH associated with that DMRS resource. When multiple bits, it includes a flag field as well as one or more bits that include least significant bits of a UE identifier (or group identifier). The UE locates its identifier (or group identifier), and limits decoding to that PDSCH with corresponding DMRS resource.
