摘要: Techniques are provided for controlling an output laser pulse signal of a medical device. A control device defines a time duration of capacitive discharge to a laser device. The time duration corresponds to an intended energy of the output laser pulse signal. The control device generates a plurality of sub-pulse control signals. The sub-pulse control signals define a series of capacitive discharge events of the capacitor bank. The control device modulates one or more of a sub-pulse control signal period or a sub-pulse time duration of the sub-pulse control signals to modify the capacitive discharge of the capacitor bank to the laser device during the time duration.

摘要: A method of tuning the time duration of laser output pulses, the method including spectrally dispersing optical pulses and further comprising providing an optical pulse having a time duration and a spectral bandwidth; spectrally dispersing (243, 245) the optical pulse so as to provide a selected change in the time duration of the pulse responsive to the spectral bandwidth of the pulse; outputting (226) an optical output pulse having a first time duration that is responsive to the selected change in time duration; providing another optical pulse; changing the amount of spectral bandwidth of the another optical pulse (272) to be different than that of the optical pulse or changing the amount of spectral dispersion so that spectrally dispersing the another optical pulse provides a change in time duration that is different than the selected change; and outputting (226) another optical output pulse having a second time duration that is responsive to the different change in time duration, the second time duration of the another optical output pulse being different than the first time duration of the optical output pulse.

摘要: The present disclosure provides a self-similar regenerative amplification method and an apparatus. The apparatus includes a broadband seed source, a spectrum shaping broader, a self-similar regenerative amplifier and a pulse compressor disposed in order of a light path. The spectrum shaping broader includes a time domain broader and a spectrum shaper. The time domain broader is configured to broaden the seed pulses, and fine-tune a width of the seed pulse. The spectrum shaper is configured to perform spectrum shaping on the broadened pulses to obtain saddle chirped pulses. The pulse regenerative amplification component includes a gain crystal and a nonlinear crystal. The self-similar regenerative amplifier receives the saddle chirped pulses, performs multiple stepwise amplifications and multiple nonlinear spectrum broadenings back and forth on the saddle chirped pulses, and output high-energy chirped pulses to the pulse compressor.

摘要: Techniques for improving gain equalization in C- and L-band (“C+L”) erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFAs) are provided. For example, the C- and L-band amplification sections of a C+L EDFA may be separated and configured in a parallel arrangement or a serial arrangement. For both the parallel and serial arrangements, the C- and L-band amplification sections may share a common gain flattening filter (GFF) or each amplification section may include and employ a separate GFF. Moreover, in some examples, an “interstage” L-band GFF may be located before or upstream of the L-band amplification section such that the L-band optical signal is gain-equalized or flattened prior to the L-band amplification section amplifying the L-band.

摘要: An arrangement for generating amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) over the combination of the C-band and L-band wavelength ranges is proposed, based on a reflective topology that reduces the number of individual components (compared with separate C-band and L-band ASE sources) required to generate the broadband ASE output. A pair of ASE generators are used, where at least one of the generators is configured to include a reflective element at a termination of the included gain fiber. The inclusion of the reflective element allows for the generated emission to pass through the gain fiber twice (emulating the operation of a conventional dual-stage ASE source). A long wavelength portion of the ASE created by a first ASE generator may be used as a seed input by the remaining ASE generator of the pair to further increase the efficiency of extending the ASE along the L-band wavelength range.

摘要: An optical fiber comprises a core having an elliptical cross section and a cladding having a circular cross section. The core has an aspect ratio between 2 and 40. The core and the cladding have a common central axis with the core being enclosed by the cladding. The difference of a refractive index of the cladding to a refractive index of the core is between 1×10−2 and 1.5×10−1. A trench is located between the core and the cladding. The trench has a uniform width and encircles the core. The refractive index of the trench is lower than the refractive index of the cladding.

摘要: A laser system may include a controller configured to direct a plurality of temporally spaced-apart electrical pulses to a device that optically pumps a lasing medium, and a lasing medium configured to output a quasi-continuous laser pulse in response to the optical pumping. The plurality of temporally spaced-apart electrical pulses may include (a) a first electrical pulse configured to excite the lasing medium to an energy level below a lasing threshold of the lasing medium, and (b) multiple second electrical pulses following the first electrical pulse. The quasi-continuous laser pulse is output in response to the multiple second electrical pulses.
