Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method and apparatus for subband-coding a frequency conversion unit and a video encoding/decoding method a video encoding/decoding apparatus using the same. The method and the apparatus for subband-coding the frequency conversion unit include generating an encoding stream by splitting the frequency conversion unit into one or more frequency domains, generating frequency domain encoding information according to whether there is a non-zero frequency coefficient in each frequency domain, scanning the frequency coefficient of each frequency domain to generate a frequency domain frequency coefficient stream, and binarizing and encoding the frequency domain encoding information and the scanned frequency domain frequency coefficient stream.

Abstract: A method for processing image or video data is performed in an image processing pipeline. Color filtered mosaiced raw image or video data is received. A one-level wavelet transform of subbands of the color filtered mosaiced raw image or video data to provide LL, HH, LH and HL subbands. The LH and HL subbands are de-correlated by summing and difference operations to provide decorrelated sum and difference subbands. Additional n-level wavelet transformation on the sum and difference subbands and the LL and HH subbands to provide sparsified subbands for encoding. LL and HH and sum subbands are recombined into standard color images e.g., red, green, and blue color components, which are subsequently processed by color correction, white balance, and gamma correction. The sparsified subbands are encoded.

The first processing module of the pipeline can be configured to associate a trigger value with at least a first media data block processed at the first processing module in accordance with second encode parameters, the trigger value passing to subsequent modules so as to cause those modules to adopt the second encode parameters.

Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises a storage device and a processor. The storage device may store a plurality of compressed images comprising one or more compressed master images and one or more compressed slave images. The processor may: identify an uncompressed image; access context information associated with the uncompressed image and the one or more compressed master images; determine, based on the context information, whether the uncompressed image is associated with a corresponding master image; upon a determination that the uncompressed image is associated with the corresponding master image, compress the uncompressed image into a corresponding compressed image with reference to the corresponding master image; upon a determination that the uncompressed image is not associated with the corresponding master image, compress the uncompressed image into the corresponding compressed image without reference to the one or more compressed master images; and store the corresponding compressed image on the storage device.

Abstract: A video encoding system in which pixel data is decomposed into frequency bands prior to encoding. The frequency bands for a slice of a frame may be buffered so that complexity statistics may be calculated across the frequency bands prior to encoding. The statistics may then be used by a rate control component in determining quantization parameters for the frequency bands for modulating the rate in the encoder for the current slice. The quantization parameters for the frequency bands may be calculated jointly to optimize the quality of the displayed frames after decoder reconstruction and wavelet synthesis on a receiving device. Information about one or more previously processed frames may be used in combination with the statistics for a current slice in determining the quantization parameters for the current slice.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and a device for coding a sequence including first and second digital holograms representing respective scenes, the digital holograms being represented by a set of wavelets each defined by a multiplet of coordinates in multidimensional space. The first and second holograms are represented by first and second coefficients respectively associated with wavelets. The coding method includes the following steps: for each second coefficient, determining a remainder by a difference between the second coefficient concerned, associated with a first wavelet defined by a given multiplet, and the first coefficient) associated with a second wavelet defined by a multiplet having as its image the multiplet by a transform in the multidimenisonal space; coding the determined remainders. The transform is determined by analysis of variation between the first scene represented by the first digital hologram and the second scene represented by the second digital hologram.

Abstract: A system and method disposed to enable encoding, decoding and manipulation of digital video with substantially less processing load than would otherwise be required. In particular, one disclosed method is directed to generating a compressed video data structure that is selectively decodable to a plurality of resolutions including the full resolution of the uncompressed stream. The desired number of data components and the content of the data components that make up the compressed video data, which determine the available video resolutions, are variable based upon the processing carried out and the resources available to decode and process the data components. During decoding, efficiency is substantially improved because only the data components necessary to generate a desired resolution are decoded. In variations, both temporal and spatial decoding are utilized to reduce frame rates, and hence, further reduce processor load. The system and method are particularly useful for real-time video editing applications.

Abstract: This invention describes a method for communicating crude motion information using tracking metadata and recovering more accurate motion information from the received tracking metadata and partial video frame data; in particular, we use metadata to convey crude boundaries of objects in the scene and signal motion information for these objects. The proposed method leaves the task of identifying the exact boundaries of an object to the decoder/client. The proposed method is particularly appealing when metadata itself carries semantics that the client is interested in, such as tracking information in surveillance applications, because, in this case, metadata does not constitute an overhead. The proposed method involves motion descriptions that can be used to predict the appearance of an object in any one frame from its appearance in any other frame that contains the object. That is, the motion information itself allows locations within an object to be invertibly mapped to locations within the same object in any other relevant frame. This is a departure from conventional motion coding schemes, which tightly-couple motion information to the prediction strategy. This property makes the proposed method particularly suitable for applications which require flexible access to the content.
