摘要: Several improvements for use with Bidirectionally Predictive (B) pictures within a video sequence are provided. In certain improvements Direct Mode encoding and/or Motion Vector Prediction are enhanced using spatial prediction techniques. In other improvements Motion Vector prediction includes temporal distance and subblock information, for example, for more accurate prediction. Such improvements and other presented herein significantly improve the performance of any applicable video coding system/logic.

The plurality of frames may comprise a plurality of crossfade frames. A first boundary frame of the crossfade frames may be determined. A second boundary frame of the crossfade frames may be determined. At least a portion of the crossfade frames may be coded as inter-predicted frames using a weighting factor and based on the first boundary frame or the second boundary frame.

The apparatus also includes a content analyzer to generate ladder info based on a received frame. The apparatus further includes an adaptive decision executer to determine a frame rate, a video resolution, and a target frame size based on the predicted instant bitrate and the ladder outputs. The apparatus further includes an encoder to encode the frame based on the frame rate, the video resolution, and the target frame size.

摘要: An encoder includes a frame level processing circuit, a coding tree unit (CTU) level processing circuit and an encoding circuit. The frame level processing circuit is arranged to calculate a bit number of a current frame according a target bitrate and a frame rate, and the frame level processing circuit is further arranged to calculate a quantization parameter of the current frame according to the bit number of the current frame and at least one parameter. The CTU level processing circuit is arranged to use an adaptive quantization mode to adjust the quantization parameter to generate an adjusted quantization parameter. The encoding circuit is arranged to encode the current frame to generate output data according to the adjusted quantization parameter.

摘要: A method and apparatus for encoding surveillance video where one or more regions of interest are identified and the encoding parameter values associated with those regions are specified in accordance with intermediate outputs of a video analytics process. Such an analytics-modulated video compression approach allows the coding process to adapt dynamically based on the content of the surveillance images. In this manner, the fidelity of the region of interest is increased relative to that of a background region such that the coding efficiency is improved, including instances when no target objects appear in the scene. Better compression results can be achieved by assigning different coding priority levels to different types of detected objects.

摘要: Embodiments feature families of rate allocation and rate control methods that utilize advanced processing of past and future frame/field picture statistics and are designed to operate with one or more coding passes. At least two method families include: a family of methods for a rate allocation with picture look-ahead; and a family of methods for average bit rate (ABR) control methods. At least two other methods for each method family are described. For the first family of methods, some methods may involve intra rate control. For the second family of methods, some methods may involve high complexity ABR control and/or low complexity ABR control. These and other embodiments can involve any of the following: spatial coding parameter adaptation, coding prediction, complexity processing, complexity estimation, complexity filtering, bit rate considerations, quality considerations, coding parameter allocation, and/or hierarchical prediction structures, among others.

摘要: A method is provided to better detect a scene change to provide a prediction to an encoder to enable more efficient encoding. The method uses a Motion Compensated Temporal Filter (MCTF) that provides motion estimation and is located prior to an encoder. The MCTF provides a Motion Compensated Residual (MCR) used to detect the scene change transition. When a scene is relatively stable, the MCR score is also relatively stable. However, when a scene transition is in process, the MCR score behavior changes, Algorithmically, the MCR score is used by comparing the sliding mean of the MCR score to the sliding median. This comparison highlights the transition points. In the case of a scene cut, the MCR score exhibits a distinct spike. In the case of a fade or dissolve, the MCR score exhibits a transitional period of degradation followed by recovery. By implementing the above detection using the MCR, the location of the I-pictures in the downstream encoding process can be accurately determined for the encoder.

摘要: Innovations in flexible reference picture management are described. For example, a video encoder and video decoder use a global reference picture set (“GRPS”) of reference pictures that remain in memory, and hence are available for use in video encoding/decoding, longer than conventional reference pictures. In particular, reference pictures of the GRPS remain available across random access boundaries. Or, as another example, a video encoder and video decoder clip a reference picture so that useful regions of the reference picture are retained in memory, while unhelpful or redundant regions of the reference picture are discarded. Reference picture clipping can reduce the amount of memory needed to store reference pictures or improve the utilization of available memory by providing better options for motion compensation. Or, as still another example, a video encoder and video decoder filter a reference picture to remove random noise (e.g., capture noise due to camera imperfections during capture).
