摘要: A method and apparatus for impregnating a porous substrate with foam, the method comprising transporting the porous substrate through a nip region defined by a rotating foraminous drum and a foam discharge head, the foam discharge head comprising one or more discharge openings, supplying foam to the discharge head with pressure sufficient to discharge foam through the discharge openings to impregnate the porous substrate, and urging the foam discharge head and the foraminous drum toward each other to compress the porous substrate as it passes the discharge openings. The foam discharge head is mounted to a hinged plate to enable the urging of the discharge head toward the foraminous drum.

摘要: An applicator for applying foamed treating liquor across the flat width of a traveling textile fabric or like substrate includes an arcuate housing having an arcuate interior partition wall intermediate a foam inlet port and a foam emission nozzle opening in the housing to define a distribution chamber providing a turning foam pathway from the inlet port about the curved edge of the partition wall to the emission opening. The curved edge of the interior wall is parabolic in shape to define substantially all possible foam flow paths from the inlet port linearly to the curved edge and linearly the respective shortest distances therefrom to the emission opening to be of substantially the same total length. Accordingly, foam residence time within the distribution chamber is substantially constant regardless of the flow path assumed, to control foam degeneration to occur uniformly for uniform widthwise treatment of the traveling fabric.

摘要: Two or more liquid treating agents which are to be applied to a stationary or running substrate are formed ahead of a collecting unit which thereupon admits a foamed compound composition into the applicator wherein the composition passes through the interstices of a screen so that it is reconverted into a liquid prior to contacting the substrate. The collecting unit can comprise or may be followed by a mixer, depending upon whether or not the constituents of the compound composition are to be converted into a homogeneous foam. The collecting unit receives discrete streams of foamed treating compositions, e.g., in the primary colors, from discrete foam generators each of which is followed by a storing device and by a regulating device, such as a valve which is adjustable by hand and/or by a computer. The valves can regulate the rate of flow of foamed treating compositions from the respective storing devices to the collecting unit as well as the rate at which the respective foam generators admit foamed treating compositions to the associated storing devices.

摘要: An elongated manifold is supplied with either foam or liquid under pressure through a plurality of inlet ports spaced along the manifold. The manifold contacts a curved blade along a line substantially parallel to, and below the elevation of, the crest of a horizontally disposed curved blade. The manifold is provided with outlet means above the line of contact whereby foam or liquid discharged from the manifold builds up behind the blade's crest until it overflows the crest to flow as a uniform film onto a web moving past an edge of the blade.

摘要: Apparatus for supplying foam from the outlet of a continuously operated foam generator to a consumer which applies the liquid fraction of the foam to a substrate has a conduit which receives foam from the outlet and contains a storing device serving to take up the surplus of foam when the requirements of the consumer are less than the output of the foam generator and to satisfy the requirements of the consumer when such requirements exceed the output of the foam generator. The storing device contains a compensating device which ensures that the pressure of foam in the interior of the storing device is substantially constant, and such compensating device (which may consist of a reciprocable piston and a hollow piston rod receiving foam from the foam generator) can actuate a monitoring device which regulates the operation of the foam generator, of a pump which is installed between the foam generator and the storing device and/or a valve which can divert foam into a collecting receptacle. Movements of the piston in a direction to allow for an increase of the effective volume of the storing device are opposed by a cushion of compressed gas, and such movements are assisted by a weight which is attached to the piston rod.

摘要: Apparatus for applying a foamed treating medium to the upper side of a substrate has a screen which confines a system of walls defining a chamber open at its underside adjacent to the screen and including a squeegee which serves to force the foamed medium from the interior of the chamber through the interstices of the screen and into the substrate. The chamber accommodates a reciprocable and/or rotary device for shifting the foamed medium therein so that the medium cannot age and change its color and/or other characteristics prior to application to the substrate.

摘要: Treating liquor is applied to open-width textile substrate by pressure feeding the liquor in foamed condition to a distribution chamber having gently changing cross sectional areas and contours and arranged to deliver the foamed treating liquor evenly widthwise of the substrate through an application head past which the substrate is caused to travel under conditions that result in liquefying the foamed treating liquor in the course of application to the substrate.

摘要: Foams containing a functional textile treating compound for application to a substrate such as a fabric or textile. The use of foams enables the application in uniform manner of many functional compositions that can be used in the treatment of a textile fabric to improve its properties. The foam compositions of this invention generally leave the textile material essentially dry to the touch and thus require less energy consumption in drying and further treatment of the textile. The foams have a foam density of 0.005 to 0.3 gram per cc, and average bubble size of from 0.05 to 0.5 millimeters in diameter and a foam half-life of from one to sixty minutes.

摘要: An apparatus for continuously coating a large surface with a foam layer having uniform low density and uniform thickness. The coating apparatus is positioned adjacent to the surface to be coated, with the surface movable past the apparatus in a direction substantially in the plane of the surface. The coating apparatus includes a plurality of self-rising foamable liquid application means for continuously applying the liquid to the surface. Immediately downstream, a screen positioning means moves a screen substantially parallel to the surface without relative motion therebetween. As the foam rises, it penetrates slightly through the screen and cures to a self-sustaining state. A rotatable brush then engages the upper surface of the screen to abrade and comminute the excess foam extending through the screen. Further means are provided to remove the comminuted excess foam and to lift the screen and any remaining excess foam away from the surface of the resulting uniform foam layer.
