Abstract:
Device (1) and method for dosing an aqueous solution (2) of an additive, e.g., a non-caking agent, into an amount of a particulate material, such as a salt. The device comprises a conveyor (4) for transporting the particulate material and a dispenser (5) arranged above the conveyor. The dispenser is connected to a supply for the aqueous solution. The dispenser comprises a pouring outlet (10) extending over at least a part of the width of the conveyor (4). The additive solution is poured with a controlled flow velocity over at least a part of the width of the conveyor (4) transporting the particulate material.
Abstract:
An apparatus and process for depositing slurry upon a moving forming web. The apparatus includes a pivotally mounted headbox for depositing slurry from the inner bottom surface of the headbox down an inclined spillway as a continuous curtain onto a moving web. The headbox is mounted transverse to the direction of travel of the moving web. The headbox also has vertical edge boards, including a headbox back edge board and two opposed headbox side edgeboards, on three respective sides of the headbox to prevent slurry from spilling over the sides and back of the headbox. The headbox is supplied with slurry from a slurry mixer by a feed line mounted on a reciprocating trolley which moves, transverse to the direction of travel of the moving web, back and forth along the length of the headbox.
Abstract:
To provide a slide curtain coating apparatus and method for depositing a curtain of coating liquid onto a running web, the apparatus and method capable of preventing the curtain from being condensed at its center region and preventing the resulting coating from having greater thickness at its edge regions. The coating apparatus includes: a slit for discharging the coating liquid; a slide on which the curtain flows down; and, a slide edge guide along which the curtain flows and which is provided at both edges on the slide and each having auxiliary liquid supply means at the surface facing the curtain; and auxiliary liquid supply means for discharging the auxiliary liquid from all over the surface thereof which touches the curtain at the edge guide. The coating method includes discharging the auxiliary liquid from all over the surface of the auxiliary supply means coating apparatus.

Abstract:
A device (10) for the direct or indirect application of liquid or pasty application medium (16) to one or both sides of a material web (20), in particular of paper or board, comprises an applicator unit (12) which discharges the application medium (16) onto the material web (20) in the form of a free application medium jet (18). In this case, in the region of the applicator unit (12) there is provided a device (30) for producing an electric field, which exerts on the application medium jet (18) moving from the applicator unit (12) to the material web (20) a force which assists its movement. Additionally or alternatively, edge guiding elements can be provided, which guide the lateral edges of the application medium curtain (18) at least on part of its movement under the force of gravity.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for improving the uniformity of a liquid curtain in a coating system comprising a lip of a slide die wherein the lip includes a front surface on which a liquid composition flows by gravity. The apparatus comprises a ledge having a first, second, and third surface portion. The first surface portion is disposed intermediate the second and third surface portions, and is substantially horizontal. The second surface portion is contiguous with the first surface portion and upwardly inclined. The third surface portion is contiguous with the first surface portion and downwardly inclined away from the first and second surface portions. The apparatus further includes a positioning device for positioning the ledge and lip relative to each other (1) in a first orientation wherein the lip is disposed proximate the first surface portion whereby the liquid composition flows from the slide die onto the first surface portion, and (2) in a second orientation wherein the lip and the ledge are spaced from each other whereby the liquid composition forms a vertical liquid curtain in free fall.
Abstract:
This invention relates to methods and apparatus for making coated articles with one or more layers by dip, spray or flow coating. In one aspect, this invention relates to an apparatus and method for making coated containers, preferably comprising polyethylene terephthalate, from coated preforms. In preferred embodiments, the apparatus and method permit the coated container or preform to be made in an energy-efficient manner that reduces the danger of coating damage and thus increases the efficacy of the final container.
Abstract:
In the gravure coating apparatus, while a bead portion of a coating liquid is formed between a roll surface of a gravure roll to which the coating liquid is excessively supplied and a web that runs continuously, the web is pressed on the gravure roll by using a backup roll, whereby a desired amount of the coating liquid is applied to the web, a liquid supply device having an inclined surface that is inclined downward toward the roll surface and a gap too narrow for the coating liquid to flow down between the roll surface and the inclined surface is provided at a position near the bead portion on the upstream side in the direction of rotation of the gravure roll so that the coating liquid flows down on the inclined surface and is supplied to the gravure roll. A liquid return of an excess coating liquid that is not used for coating in the bead portion is less liable to occur, so that a streak trouble on a coating surface formed on the web can be prevented from occurring.
Abstract:
A process comprising: providing a moving substrate; applying at least one coating layer wherein the at least one coating Is a photoconductive material, an electrically insulating material, a hole transport material, an anti-curl material, or an adhesive material onto the moving substrate with a slot die coater equipped with at least one position sensor mounted on at least one end of the slot die coater, and for example, applying from one to about five coating layers on the substrate; sensing the position of the slot die coater relative to the moving substrate with at least one position sensor; and, when the position of the slot die coater relative to the moving substrate deviates from a set of predetermined coordinates, iteratively adjusting the position of the die coater relative to the surface of the substrate to return to the set of predetermined coordinates.
Abstract:
A curtain coating apparatus for applying a coating solution to a continuously moving web, which comprises an air jet injector for injecting air in the upstream direction of a web, provided at a position upstream of a contact point of a curtain film with the web and a shielding member shutting off entrained air generated by movement of the web, provided between the contact point and the air jet injector, thereby diminishing an influence of turbulent air flow and preventing the curtain film from suction toward the air jet injector.
