Abstract:
Systems, methods, apparatus and devices for performing improved gynecologic and urologic procedures using a flowable distension media are disclosed. The system and devices provide simplified use and reduced risk of adverse events. Patient benefit is achieved through improved outcomes, reduced pain, especially peri-procedural pain, and reduced recovery times. The various embodiments enable procedures to be performed outside the hospital setting, such as in a doctor's office or clinic.

Apparatus for accomplishing the permanent placement of a lockable clip around a target vessel to interrupt the continuity of the same in a rapid, safe and minimally invasive manner. The apparatus includes a trocar obturator and a hollow member in which the open locking clip is enclosed for delivery to a position proximate to the vas whereupon the trocar obturator is retracted such that the clip is locked onto the vessel to effect occlusion.
Abstract:
A disposable vasectomy instrument is provided having a body portion and an insertable module. The body portion includes a jaw portion having a lower fixed jaw and an upper movable jaw into which the module is inserted. The module includes a cutting block having two spaced apart blades and a pair of ligature clips disposed on either side of the blades. The movable jaw is controlled by the operator to simultaneously move the blades forward and close the ligature clips. The physician isolates the vas deferense, engages it within the ligature clips and adjacent the blades. The movable jaw is operated, cutting out a segment of the vas deferens and closing the ligature clips on each severed end of the vas deferens. A separate module is provided for each vas deferens of the patient.

This invention relates to forceps for applying a clip to a Fallopian tube. The clip is in one piece and made of a somewhat flexible plastics material. It has two separable arms which are connected by a flexible strip: one of these arms has a catch recess in a free end thereof to face the strip, into which recess the end of one of said spring arms is pressable by elastic deformation.According to the invention the forceps have an outer shaft to receive the clip open in a distal cut-out with the straight arm extended; the forceps additionally comprise two proximal handle members for opening and closing and consisting of a pivotally arranged two-armed closing lever. One arm of this closing lever has a distal flat face flush with the outer shaft so the forceps may be inserted through an outer trocar tube. Abutting against the straight clip arm and proximally in front of it is a projection; the other arm of the two-armed lever is pivotally connected to a rod which is axially stopped with respect to the pivot bearing of the closing lever by a proximal handle members and is distally movable and then is distally movable with the pivot bearing so that the projection of the closing lever becomes aligned against the straight clip arm and so that, by leaving the closing lever bearing in position, the rod is proximally movable to close the clip.

A surgical clip, particularly adapted to produce necrosis in Fallopian tube tissue, consists of jaws hinged adjacent one end and a U-shaped spring which holds the jaws open in one position and exerts a closing pressure on the jaws in another position. The clip is particularly adapted to be applied to tube tissue, through a laparoscope designed to have a pair of slidable actuators one of which closes the clip jaws and assists in retaining the clip in proper location at the distal end of the laparoscope and the other actuator is adapted to position the Ushaped spring in the jaw closing position.

A medical device for interacting with a patient's cervix is provided. The device includes a grasper configured to allow gripping and compression of a patient's cervix when disposed proximate a patient's cervix and an elongate catheter comprising a distal portion that is selectively releasably connectable to the grasper. The grasper is adapted to interact with at least a portion of a patient's cervix when deployed, and a flexible member that extends from a first end portion of the grasper, with a proximal end portion retained by the grasper and an opposite distal end portion extending away from the grasper to a distal tip.

A device for clamping and severing a compressible structure includes a clamp assembly and a cutting assembly. The clamp assembly has first second identical clamps coupled together to define a gap therebetween with posts spanning the gap. Each clamp has a pair of arms hingedly coupled to one another at first ends thereof and lockable to one another at second ends thereof. The clamp assembly defines an open position when the second ends of the arms are separated from one another and a clamped position when the second ends of the arms are locked to one another. The cutting assembly supports the clamp assembly in its open position and places the clamp assembly in its clamped position. The cutting assembly includes a convexly-curved cutting blade that passes through the clamp assembly's gap when the clamp assembly is in its closed position to cut through the posts spanning the gap.

This application presents a bifurcated, optimally-angled surgical forceps. In one example, this surgical forceps may enable a more natural maneuver for initial clamping of the vas deferens through the scrotal skin. This may be more comfortable for users and easier to maintain, and may provide greater tactile surface contact between the thumb and vas deferens. This device also may provide the surgeon with an entire segment of vas deferens upon which the vasectomy may be performed, thus reducing the need for frequent repositioning of instruments. The device may also be applied to other surgical procedures that may benefit from the features of the device and where a section of a tubular anatomical structure may need clamping at two points along its length. Examples include blood and lymphatic vessels, ducts of the digestive system, and large nerves or nerve bundles.

A laparoscopic surgical instrument to perform tubular ligation of the Fallopian tube includes a handle grip to be held by the surgeon. A finger grip is used to slide a body member on a rod fixed to the handle and to squeeze a staple onto the Fallopian tube. A forceps, operated by a button on the handle, pulls up the Fallopian tube and holds a segment of the tube, as a biopsy sample, after it has been severed.
