According to various embodiments of the disclosure, a method for operating a base station in a wireless communication system includes receiving, from a terminal, information on a residence time of the terminal and a transmission time of an uplink frame, determining a radio access network residence time based on the transmission time of the uplink frame, and transmitting the radio access network residence time and the residence time of the terminal to a user plane function (UPF).

    Abstract: An embodiment provides a method for supporting video transmission and reception in a bitrate selection server of a mobile communication system. The method includes receiving a metadata request of a video from a terminal. The method also includes transmitting the received metadata request to a media server based on the request; receiving a metadata response from the media server. The method also includes storing the received video metadata and transmitting the received video metadata to the terminal. The method also includes requesting subscriber information of the terminal to a Policy and Changing Rules Function (PCRF) and receiving the subscriber information. The method also includes receiving a video segment request of the video from the terminal. The method also includes determining a bitrate of the video based on at least one of the video metadata and the subscriber information.

    Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving media. A method of transmitting and receiving media segments for a base station may include: receiving a segment request message from a user equipment; checking whether the segment request message contains a segment selection delegation indicator through analysis of the segment request message; obtaining, when the segment request message contains a segment selection delegation indicator, play position information from the segment request message; selecting one of two or more segments corresponding to the play position information; and receiving the selected segment from an external server and delivering the received segment to the user equipment. Embodiments of the present invention enable efficient adaptive streaming.
