摘要: Method of preparing a biological sample appropriate for use in a subsequent in vitro nucleic acid amplification reaction. The method involves a rapid, transient exposure to alkaline conditions which can be achieved by mixing an alkaline solution with a pH-buffered solution that includes a detergent and the biological sample to be tested for the presence of particular nucleic acid species using in vitro amplification. The invented method advantageously can improve detection of some target nucleic acids without substantially compromising detectability of others. The method is particularly useful for simultaneously preparing RNA and DNA templates that can be used in multiplex amplification reactions.

摘要: A method and system for detecting a virtual electrode (VE) on a coronary sinus (CS) catheter in a fluoroscopic image sequence is disclosed. User inputs indicating locations of CS catheter electrodes and a location of a VE are received. A catheter electrode model and a VE part model is initialized in a first frame of the fluoroscopic image sequence. The VE is tracked by detecting electrode position candidates and catheter body point candidates in the subsequent frames of the fluoroscopic image sequence using respective trained detectors, tracking the catheter electrode model in the subsequent frames based on the detected electrode position candidates, generating VE part hypotheses in the subsequent frames based on detection of the most proximal electrode (MPE) in each subsequent frame, calculating a probability score for each of the VE part hypotheses, and selecting an VE part hypothesis with the highest probability score.

摘要: Metal seed layers are deposited on a semiconductor substrate having recessed features by a method that involves at least three operations. In this method, a first layer of metal is deposited onto the substrate to cover at least the bottom portions of the recessed features. The first layer of metal is subsequently redistributed to improve sidewall coverage of the recessed features. Next, a second layer of metal is deposited on at least the field region of the substrate and on the bottom portions of the recessed features. The method can be implemented using a PVD apparatus that allows deposition and resputtering operations. This sequence of operations can afford seed layers with improved step coverage. It also leads to decreased formation of voids in interconnects, and to improved resistance characteristics of formed IC devices.

摘要: The present invention provides for a polymer composite article with a treated filler and methods for making the same. The polymer composite article includes a polymer capable of being formed into a product shape and a treated filler which is dispersed throughout the polymer forming the composite article. The filler is treated by techniques which exfoliate, delaminate or intercalate the filler particles into individual micro and/or nano size particulates and platelets. Ideally, the treated filler has a median particle size ranging from about 0.1 nm-10 μm. The treated filler enhances the rigidity, barrier properties, heat deflection temperature, clarity, nucleation characteristics, fire retardant characteristics and impact properties of the article. In a preferred embodiment, the article is a polymer composite sheet. The products formed from the polymer composite article include containers, cups, bags, sleeves, bottles, cups, plates, bowls, storageware, dinnerware and cookware. The present invention also provides for methods of fabricating the polymer composite articles.

摘要: The invention includes a multilayer polymer composite structure that includes a first layer comprising a polymer and at least one mineral filler and a second layer comprising a polymer. A third layer is positioned between the first layer and the second layer, wherein the third layer includes a mixture of material from at least the first and second layers. Preferably, the third layer is formed by recycling and mixing excess material from the multilayer polymer structure. The second layer can further include a colorant. The multilayer polymer structure can also include a fourth and/or fifth layer comprising a high clarity polymer and/or a high gloss polymer that provides a glossy surface or a sealant polymer that provides surface capable of being sealed. In a preferred embodiment, the multilayer polymer structure is thermoformed into a multilayer polymer article such as a container. Preferably, the container is a drinking cup. The present invention also provides for a process for preparing a multilayer polymer article. The process includes an in-line or continuous single line extrusion-thermoform-trim system, including direct sheet extrusion of the polymer layer having the mineral filler.
