Abstract: Technology for a user equipment (UE) operable to determine a transport block size (TBS) is disclosed. The UE can determine a number of assigned resource elements (REs) in one or more symbols for a transport block. The UE can determine a reference number of REs per physical resource block (PRB) in the transport block based on a reference number of REs for the transport block corresponding to each PRB and an assigned number of PRBs for the transport block. The UE can determine a TBS for the transport block based at least on the reference number of REs per PRB in the transport block. The UE can encode information in a selected transport block for transmission via a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) to a Next Generation NodeB (gNB) in accordance with the TBS determined at the UE.

Abstract: Devices and methods of reducing blind decoding attempts of user equipment (UE) suing carrier aggregation are generally described. The UE may determine at least one subframe in a modification period to monitor for a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) formed in accordance with a Discontinuous Transmission Downlink Control Information (DTX DCI) format. The DTX DCI format may indicate whether the serving cell is in a DTX or non-DTX state. The UE may determine the DTX state of each serving cell from the DTX DCI format and monitor an enhanced PDCCH of each serving cell in the non-DTX state to provide a scheduling assignment for the UE, without monitoring each serving cell in the DTX state. The UE may receive higher layer signaling that indicates a repetition period and subframe offset for DTX DCI format transmissions or a bitmap of the DTX DCI format transmissions for subframes within each modification period.

Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE) to operate in accordance with a physical random access channel (PRACH) are disclosed herein. The UE may comprise hardware processing circuitry to determine a coverage enhancement category for the UE based on downlink channel statistics related to reception of downlink signals at the UE from an Evolved Node-B (eNB) and an uplink-downlink imbalance parameter related to uplink reception at the eNB. The hardware processing circuitry may be further to select, for use in a coverage enhancement mode, a PRACH preamble from a set of candidate PRACH preambles based on the determined coverage enhancement category for the UE. In some embodiments, at least some of the candidate PRACH preambles may span a different number of sub-frames.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for transmitting uplink control information (UCI) over an OFDMA-based uplink. In some embodiments, UCI symbols are mapped to resource elements (REs) in the time/frequency resource grid to maximize frequency diversity. In some embodiments, UCI is mapped in a manner that takes into account channel estimation performance by mapping UCI symbols to those REs that are closest (in terms of OFDM subcarriers/symbols) to REs that carry reference signals.

Abstract: Technology for supporting dual connectivity is disclosed. A user equipment (UE) may receive a radio resource control (RRC) reconfiguration message from a macro evolved node B (MeNB). The RRC reconfiguration message may indicate that a secondary cell associated with a secondary eNB (SeNB) is to be added for connection to the UE. The UE may complete an RRC reconfiguration procedure to add the secondary cell. The UE may send a preamble to the SeNB indicating that the UE has completed the RRC reconfiguration procedure. The UE may communicate data with the SeNB after sending the preamble to the SeNB, wherein the UE supports dual connectivity to the MeNB and the SeNB.

Abstract: In embodiments, apparatuses, methods, and storage media may be described for identifying subframes in a radio frame on which a UE may receive a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) or enhanced PDCCH (ePDCCH) transmission. Specifically, the UE may receive multiple indications of uplink/downlink (UL/DL) subframe configurations and identify one or more subframes in which the UE may receive the PDCCH or ePDCCH transmission. The UE may then monitor one or more of the identified subframes and base discontinuous reception (DRX) timer functionality on one or more of the identified subframes.

Abstract: A hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) process enables a retransmission to be sent on a carrier (or medium, set of frequencies, band, etc.) different from the carrier on which the previous transmissions (initial transmission and/or retransmissions) were sent. An enhanced HARQ process can improve system performance by aiding user throughput, system throughput, and delay performance by making retransmissions possible even when the unlicensed band is not available (e.g., when occupied by other RATs or the same RAT deployed by another operator). For example, a transmitter sends a subpacket in an unlicensed band. The receiver feeds back a NACK to the transmitter due to the packet decoding failure. If the medium is not idle, the transmitter sends the retransmission in another band or another channel that can be either a licensed band/channel or another unlicensed band/channel. The retransmission can be sent in multiple licensed and/or unlicensed bands/channels at the same time.

The DCI format may comprise a Downlink Assignment Index (DAI) for Time Division Duplexed (TDD) and Frequency Division Duplexed (FDD) operation. The UE may determine, dependent on the DAI, a number and ordering of Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request-Acknowledgment (HARQ-ACK) bits to be transmitted on a Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) and subsequently transmit the HARQ-ACK bits.
