Abstract:
A Vee machining center employing two distinct non-captive tool retaining means which are, each, operable to retain a tool in substantially the same position as a function of the tool releasing movement of the other. One of the retaining means consists of the usual flexible drive belt for rotating the tool while the other comprises a mechanical gripper providing temporary support for the tool during tool interchange. Two distinct, alternately usable power sources provide two distinct speed control ranges for the machining center.
Abstract:
A combination of mechanical and non-mechanical machining capabilities are integrated into a single machining center. Both the mechanical and the non-mechanical machining equipment are mounted for selective movement between a non-working position completely clearing the work area and a working position for conducting machining operations along a common centerline.
Abstract:
The disclosure is directed to a vertically oriented automatic tool changer employing non-captive tools for performing machining and/or assembly operations at a plurality of work locations on a single workpiece which workpiece is supported by a work positioner capable of infinite adjustment to present any desired number an spacing of work locations, on the workpiece, to the working axis of the non-captive tools.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to a method of drilling holes in difficulty machinable material wherein non-mechanical means, such as a laser or an electron beam, is used to drill a first undersize hole which is characterized by a surrounding recast area followed by a mechanical reaming operation to remove the recast area and produce a finished bore in the material which then reveals no metallurgical alteration.
Abstract:
A METHOD OF MACHINING SOLID DRILLS WHEREIN SUCH DRILLS ARE MACHINED WITHOUT REGARD TO NATURAL CLEAVAGE LINES. THE DRILLS ARE MACHINED TO A DESIRED THREE-DIMENSIONAL CONFIGURATION BY PROVIDING A YIELDABLE ENGAGEMENT OF THE DIAMOUNT WITH AN ENDLESS MACHINING MEMBER IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SURFACES WHICH ARE TO BE MACHINED.
