    摘要: An orthopedic prosthesis for implantation into a bone of a patient includes a porous metal shell adapted to be affixed within the bone. The porous metal shell includes an outer surface adapted to receive bone ingrowth and an inner surface adapted to engage a liner. The porous metal shell is porous from the outer surface to the inner surface. A non-porous member may be affixed to the porous metal shell. The non-porous member may include a piercing member extending from the outer surface, the piercing member adapted to penetrate the bone in an implanted position. The non-porous member may include spikes or fins. In one example, the piercing member may define a reduced material cross section at an interface with the outer surface of the porous metal shell. The piercing member may be adapted to be broken at the reduced material cross section and removed from the porous metal shell.

    摘要: Methods and devices for assessing and determining proper alignment and placement of implant components during joint reconstruction surgery, particularly in the knee joint. Provisional components with force transducers 150, 240 are positioned in the joint 40 and used to determine the precise forces and decide how to balance the forces in the joint. In the knee joint, a provisional tibial component 80 and a provisional patella component 85 are used. The tibial component has a base member 84 and a pair of bearing elements 88, 90 held loosely in place by a clamping frame 86. Rocker members 130, 132 allow the bearing elements to move or rock relative to the base member. The patella component has a base plate 220 and a bearing element 222 held loosely in place by a plurality of pins 228. A rocker member 232 allows the bearing element to move or rock relative to the base plate. Force transducers or sensors 150, 240 connected to computers are positioned in the provisional components 80, 85 and provide readings of the location and magnitude of the sum of the forces generated in the joint when the joint is moved through its range of motion.

A dermal transition structure is configured to include a controlled roughness gradient from the external shaft to the dome-shaped portion and configured for use in infection control at a dermis layer of the patient.

    摘要: An orthopedic prosthesis for implantation into a bone of a patient can include a shell, an augment and a securing member. The shell can be adapted to be affixed within the bone and have an outer surface adapted to receive bone ingrowth after implantation. The shell can have an inner surface adapted to engage a liner. An elongated slot can extend between the outer and inner surfaces of the shell. The augment can define a body and have a passage therethrough. The securing member can extend through the passage and the slot. The securing member can be movable between a locked position wherein the augment is precluded from relative movement with the shell and an unlocked position wherein the securing member is adapted to slidably traverse along the slot to locate the augment at a plurality of positions relative to the shell.
