Disclosed is an apparatus and method for transmitting/receiving a control message in a wireless communication system that is designed to reduce overhead associated with transmission/reception of the control message. To this end, a transmission apparatus generates a control message, generates a compressed control message by compressing the generated control message, based on a control message that has been lastly received by a reception apparatus from among previously transmitted control messages, selects one of the generated control message and the generated compressed control message according to whether or not the control message lastly received by the reception apparatus exists, and transmits the selected one of the generated control message and the generated compressed control message to the reception apparatus. Therefore, it is possible to reduce resources used for control message transmission, and thus increase the use efficiency of the resources.

Upon receipt of information data bits, an encoder encodes the information data bits into an LDPC codeword using a predetermined coding scheme. A channel interleaver interleaves the LDPC codeword according to a predetermined channel interleaving rule. A modulator modulates the channel-interleaved LDPC codeword into a modulation symbol using a predetermined modulation scheme.

An apparatus and method for switching between an AMC mode and a diversity mode adaptively according to a channel environment in a broadband wireless communication system are provided. According to the present invention, a transmitter (a base station) determines a transmission mode according to frequency-domain and time-domain channel measurement information received from a receiver (a mobile station). If the transmission mode is the AMC mode, the transmitter selects a coding and modulation scheme according to a frequency-domain CQI received from the receiver. If the transmission mode is a diversity mode, the transmitter selects a predetermined coding and modulation scheme.

In the RACH transmitting apparatus, a generator generates an access code. A sub-carrier allocator divides the access code into M sub-blocks and allocates each of the M sub-blocks to successive sub-carriers in a sub-band. An inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) processor generates an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol by performing an IFFT on the allocated sub-blocks.

More specially, a method is provided in which a first base station in a wireless communication system periodically measures interference for a cell of a second base station neighboring the first base station, determines an average of the periodically measured interference, broadcasts the determined average of the periodically measured interference to mobile terminals located in a cell of the first base station, determines a weight for the determined average of the periodically measured interference, based on one of resource allocation information for the cell of the second base station and whether a specific message for interference regulation is received from the second base station, and transmits the determined weight to the mobile terminals.
