Abstract:
An insert device and co-culture device assembly incorporating the insert device, which includes an insert chamber with two fluid impermeable side walls that extend from a microporous bottom to an open top to form an inner cavity. The first side wall is shaped to form a convex arc that follows between about half of a circumference of the well and less than an entire circumference of the well. The second side wall joins ends of the first side wall and protrudes inward towards a center of the convex arc. A flange extends outward from or beneath the top and is notched to form a gap adjacent to the second side wall, which forms an access port allowing access to the lower chamber with a micropipette tip when the insert device is inserted into a well of a single or multi-well plate.

Abstract:
A device for detecting cells and/or molecules on an electrode surface is disclosed. The device detects cells and/or molecules through measurement of impedance changes resulting from the cells and/or molecules. A disclosed embodiment of the device includes a substrate having two opposing ends along a longitudinal axis. A plurality of electrode arrays are positioned on the substrate. Each electrode array includes at least two electrodes, and each electrode is separated from at least one adjacent electrode in the electrode array by an expanse of non-conductive material. The electrode has a width at its widest point of more than about 1.5 and less than about 10 times the width of the expanse of non-conductive material. The device also includes electrically conductive traces extending substantially longitudinally to one of the two opposing ends of the substrate without intersecting another trace. Each trace is in electrical communication with at least one of the electrode arrays.
Abstract:
Novel compounds having a fused bicyclic heteroaromatic ring system substituted with a heteroaryl five-membered ring are disclosed. The compounds inhibit growth of a variety of types of cancer cells, and are thus useful for treating cancer. Efficacy of these compounds is demonstrated with a system for monitoring cell growth/migration, which shows they are potent inhibitors of growth and/or migration of cancer cells. In addition, compounds of the invention were shown to stop growth of tumors in vivo, and to reduce the size of tumors in vivo. Compositions comprising these compounds, and methods to use these compounds and compositions for treatment of cancers, are disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention provides substituted di-, tri-, tetra- and penta-sulfide compounds and compositions, and methods of using the same for the treatment and/or prevention of a cell proliferative disorder. The present invention also provides methods for preparing trisulfide compounds and compositions.
Abstract:
A method of identifying a potential therapeutic compound that affects a Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (RTK) pathway in cancer cells, which includes: providing a device capable of measuring cell-substrate impedance; culturing cancer cells in serum-free media in at least two wells of the device; adding to a first well a proposed therapeutic compound that affects a RTK pathway and a RTK stimulating factor for the RTK pathway to form a test well, and adding to another well the RTK stimulating factor to form a control well; continuously monitoring cell-substrate impedance of the at least two wells and optionally determining cell indices from the monitored cell-substrate impedance; and determining a difference in impedance or optionally cell index between the test well and control well; and if significantly different, concluding the proposed therapeutic compound is therapeutically active in the RTK pathway within the cancer cells.
