Systems, methods, and devices for accessing a service of a wireless carrier network through a wireless local area network (WLAN) are described. A method includes selecting one or more traffic management parameters associated with the WLAN based at least in part on one or more quality of service (QoS) parameters associated with the service of the wireless carrier network being accessed. The method further includes transmitting packets over the WLAN using the selected one or more traffic management parameters associated with the WLAN when a user equipment accesses the service of the wireless carrier network through the WLAN. The user equipment enforces the selected one or more traffic management parameters for communications to the wireless carrier network. An access point enforces the selected one or more traffic management parameters for communications to the user equipment.

A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication at a first user equipment (UE) are provided. The apparatus sends a request to a second UE for establishing a call connection, receives from the second UE an acknowledgment for establishing the call connection, establishes at least one first dedicated bearer between the first UE and a network for communicating media packets with the second UE, sends first dummy data to the second UE via the established at least one first dedicated bearer, receives at least one of second dummy data or a media packet from the second UE via the established at least one first dedicated bearer, and exchanges media packets with the second UE via the established at least one first dedicated bearer after receiving the at least one of the second dummy data or the media packet from the second UE.

Compression of broadcast data packets is described in which a compressed broadcast data packet is formed by causing at least one field in a packet header to be excluded from the transmitted data packet. The data from the compressed or removed field is data that is otherwise available to a user entity. The user entity receives the compressed broadcast data packet and determines information corresponding to at least one of the eliminated fields in order to process the received broadcast information.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications and, more particularly, to methods and apparatus for utilizing a control protocol to establish multiple packet data network (PDN) connections through a trusted wide area network (TWAN). Techniques are provided for expanding mobile network capacity by offloading traffic from wireless wide area networks (WWAN) to other types of networks, including wireless local area networks (WLAN).

According to systems and methods herein, tokens are generated for a packet data network based on a peak transmission rate associated with the packet data network. Packets are selected for transmission over the packet data network based on availability of tokens.

Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication and to handling paging cycle overlaps by a dual camped UE. According to an aspect, a UE may detect a paging occasion of a cell in the first RAT and a paging occasion of a cell in a second RAT, and camp on a third RAT upon determining that the paging occasions overlap. Prior to camping on the third RAT, according to aspects, the UE may perform a cell reselection in the first RAT after determining that the paging occasions of the first and second RATs overlap, detect a paging occasion of the reselected cell in the first RAT, and camp on the third RAT when the paging occasion of the reselected cell in the first RAT and the paging occasion of the second RAT overlap.

Logical channel prioritization and mapping to different numerologies is disclosed for 5G networks having multiple network slices operable for communication via logical channels associated with different numerologies. For user equipments (UEs) configured to handle multiple numerologies, different rules for mapping logical channels associated with different numerologies may be defined for data and non-data channels. Thus, when new data arrives at a UE for communication via a logical channel associated with a different numerology, the UE checks whether the mapping rules would allow multiplexing of the new numerology data onto an existing data channel. If no data channel has already been allocated or if an allocated data channel may not include data from the new numerology, then a mapping is followed for specifically requesting resources for communication of the new numerology data. The new mapping may trigger scheduling request or random access procedures specifically associated with the new numerology.

Methods, systems, and devices are described for enhanced power savings in wireless devices through mobile initiated dormancy procedure. A user equipment (UE) may establish radio resource control (RRC) connectivity with a base station of the network, and transmit and receive one or more distinct signaling messages for dormancy state initialization and suspension at the UE. Dormancy state implementation at the UE may conserve available power resources at the UE during periods of inactive data transaction. The one or more signaling messages may contain a single or multi-bit indication for the receiving device, and may be transmitted via direct signaling on upper layer protocols of the data network or mapped to allocated resources of a data transmission. The signaling messages may sustain synchronization between the interpreted functional mode of the UE at the base station and the implemented mode at the UE.

Capability exchange enhancements include filtering and/or indexing. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) determines UE capabilities to be reported to a network based on one or more of: one or more enquiries from the network, received system information, a home operator policy, configuration associated with public land mobile network (PLMN) information of one or more networks, a user preference, or a service type. In other aspects, a UE may report a subset of UE capabilities for features used for the connection establishment. Following connection establishment, the UE may use an identifier to communicate a more complete set of modes of operation that the UE is currently capable of performing. Base stations of the network may share the reported subset so that the UE may avoid transmitting the subset to a target base station.

Wireless communications systems and methods related to providing an indication that a user equipment (UE) is within coverage by a particular network are provided. An example method of wireless communications obtaining, by a first wireless communication device from a second device associated with a second network, information regarding whether the first wireless communication device is within coverage by a first network. The first wireless communication device supports dual connectivity with the first network and the second network. The method also includes determining, based at least in part on the information, whether to display an icon indicating that the first wireless communication device is connected to the first network. The method further includes in response to a determination to display the icon, displaying, by the first wireless communication device, the icon on a display coupled to the first wireless communication device.
