摘要： Prior to starting, the size of a clearance, defined on a second end side of a roll when an end of a coating roll is brought into contact with a first end side of a doctor or back-up roll, is measured and stored as data in a memory. After starting, the amounts of movement of both ends of the rolls are controlled in driving of the doctor or back-up roll to be in contact with/separated from the coating roll so that the second end side of the roll is moved by a distance larger by the clearance size than the first end side of the roll on the basis of the clearance size data. Thus, the clearance size is corrected so that the outer peripheral surfaces of the rolls driven to be in contact with/separated from each other are continuously retained parallel in arbitrary moving positions.

摘要： An apparatus for sealing the lap joint formed by the edge of an upper sheet of roofing material overlying the edge of a lower sheet comprises a frame, a handle assembly mounted to the frame, a drive assembly including an endless belt which contacts the roof and is wrapped around a pair of spaced rollers mounted for rotation to the frame, a solvent delivery assembly mounted to the frame for applying solvent material between the overlapping edges of the roofing sheets, and a plurality of spring-biased casters mounted to the frame and extending downwardly into contact with the endless belt. The spring-biased casters are adapted to urge the belt against the upper roofing sheet and into contact with the lower sheet, thereby permitting the solvent material to create a bond therebetween. The spring-biased casters are arranged in an array so that pressure is applied to the entire lower run of the belt which contacts the roof surface.

摘要： The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for applying high solids enamels to wire wherein the enamel is heated to lower its viscosity to below about 200 cps, the heated enamel is then passed through a discrete, enclosed passageway in a first felt pad. The wire to be coated is then drawn between the first felt pad and a second felt pad in contact with the first felt pad. The wire is passed substantially perpendicular and in front of the discrete passageway of the first felt pad when it is coated with the enamel. The enamel is then formed uniformly and circumferentially about the wire as it exits the felt pads and cured in a curing oven.

摘要： A rotary converting machine gum box is replenished with adhesive by means of a pumped circulation system which includes a first pump delivery conduit at one end of the gum box and a second pump suction conduit at the other end. A small adhesive pond or trough region between the two gum box ends carries the adhesive flow from one end to the other parallel to the meter roll surface and in flooding contact therewith. Adhesive pond level within the gum box is regulated by a speed differential between the two pumps thereby regulating the relative supply and withdrawal rates of the two pumps.

摘要： An applicator adapted to neatly apply lotions, medicaments, and the like to the skin of a user reaches the entire back area of the user by hand manipulation of an elongated stem or handle pivotally connected to a head carrying an absorbent pad which is saturated with the lotion or medicament. The hands or clothing of the user need not contact the pad. A removable lid or cover on the head protects the saturated pad from contaminants, minimizes evaporation of the lotion, and isolates the pad to prevent the lotion from soiling surrounding material during non-use of the applicator. The stem or handle has telescoping sections extensible to a desired length and an eccentric lock secures the telescoped sections in fixed position. A stop limits the pivoting of the handle on the head to maintain a pushing angle relative to the head. The head and handle are separable to provide a compact knock-down package and to accommodate replacement of the head.

摘要： A method and apparatus for dispensing a fluid in a conduit and more particularly for dispensing lubricant within an electrical conduit for facilitating pulling electrical cables through the conduit. The apparatus is in the form of a cartridge disposed in the conduit at an end thereof. The cartridge is made of a pair of sealed and separable members. One of the members is a flanged sleeve forming the casing of the cartridge, in which is coaxially disposed the separable member forming a tubular support member or carrier for a mass of resilient and absorbent lubricant impregnated porous material compressibly packed between the inner surface of the sleeve casing and the carrier. A cable pulling strand, or fishtape, is passed through the tubular carrier, and the cables to be pulled through the conduit are attached to the end of the fishtape. A plug inserted in the open end of the tubular carrier prevents the fishtape and the cables attached thereto from being pulled back through the carrier. The carrier separates from the sleeve casing when a pull is exerted on the other end of the fishtape. The mass of resilient and absorbent material supported by the carrier expands to the inner diameter of the conduit when leaving the sleeve casing and absorbs part of an additional supply of lubricant contained in the cartridge. Pulling the lubricant-impregnated mass of resilient and absorbent material on the carrier ahead of the electrical cables coats the wall of the conduit with a film of lubricant.

摘要： A thread issuing from a spinning apparatus passes around a drive roller on a rotatable spindle, then over a guide on an adjacent shaft. Thereafter the thread passes from the guide to a wax body carried on the spindle and rides over an axial end of this body. The spindle has an abutment defining a plane on rotation of the spindle and means is provided for urging the end of the body against this plane. The guide is set to the same side of the plane as the body so that the thread lies at an angle to this plane and rubs against the wax body. This guide may be a drum formed with a plurality of grooves, some lying in a plane perpendicular to the rotation axis of the drum, and some at an angle thereto. The inclined grooves serve for an intermittent or nonuniform (periodic) waxing of the thread.

摘要： Conductor striping apparatus for applying one or more coding stripes parallel to the conductor axis at rates of 600 feet per minute or better. The ink applicator utilizes no moving parts and comprises a perforated masking shim plate held against the conductor by open cell wicking extending into the perforations to feed ink onto a conductor as it is advanced past and in contact with one or more of the perforations. Conductor guide means formed with a V-shaped groove seating the conductor on its opposed sides are positioned closely adjacent the approach edge of the masking plate and hold the conductor accurately aligned with the perforations while the coding stripe is being applied to the conductor. Preheater means may be employed to preheat the conductor insulation to facilitate application of the ink and to expedite drying of the ink.
