    Abstract: A conveyor roller comprises a roller tube fitted with end cap assemblies incorporating bearings for rotatably mounting the roller tube on a fixed shaft. Each end cap assembly comprises a housing molded in resilient plastics material, one portion of the housing forming a substantially rigid annular frame which supports the bearing, and another portion of the housing forming a spring support which surrounds the frame and is of a size to be a sliding fit within an end of the roller tube, the outer end of the support being spaced radially from the housing. An end cover has an annular flange which is a close fit in the bearing. The end cap assembly is secured in position by swaging the end of the tube so as to force the outer end of the spring support radially inwards against the rigid housing. The external surface of the housing is curved, so that the spring support and the end portion of the tube are deflected to the curvature of the external surface of the housing.

    Abstract: Ball bearing assembly for rotatably supporting a belt support roll on an axle comprising a pair of bearing rings having confronting spaced apart sections defining inner and outer raceways disposed at an angle to the normal axis for a plurality of balls.     Abstract: A series of conveyor idler roll shafts in end-to-end relation supported by bearings provides a pressurized chamber for the flow of grease or oil to the bearings from a reservoir, which is capable of pumping the lubricant into the axial bore of each shaft. Small, radially directed holes connect the shaft bores to the bearings by providing a restricted passage having across it a suitable pressure drop capable of allowing lubricant to flow in sufficient quantities to each bearing regardless of its distance from the reservoir pressure source. Adjacent shaft ends are connected with a resilient cylindrical tubular coupler to provide the requisite flow passage continuity. A labyrinth seal provides a continuous path for lubricant to flow through the bearings, the seal and ultimately to the exterior of the system, where its appearance is visible and indicative of adequate lubricant flow to each bearing along the shaft assembly.

    Abstract: The embodiment of the invention disclosed is a conveyor roll having a cylindrical shell with integral end caps and axial sleeves extending inwardly from the end caps. The shell, end caps and sleeves are rotatably journalled about the shaft by roller bearings between the sleeves and the shaft. An internal labyrinth is provided in each sleeve between the bearing and the end of the shell, this internal labyrinth including a rotatable collar and a non-rotatable bushing carried respectively by the shell and shaft and having a series of facing cylindrical and annular surfaces providing a labyrinthine passageway of restricted cross-section extending from the bearing means to an annular outlet at the end of the shell. An external labyrinth is provided outside the end cap. This includes first and second annular flanges carried respectively by the shaft and shell and axially spaced from the annular outlet and from one another. These two flanges provide inner and outer radial passages. The outer radial passage has radial and axial dimension exceeding those of the inner radial passage whereby centrifugal force acting on a radial column of lubricant in the outer radial passage opposes leakage from the shell.
