Abstract: A method of operating a mobile communication network including plural radio transceiver stations serving and managing communications between mobile communication devices. The method includes: a first radio transceiver station commanding, to a first mobile communication device, transmission of a probe signal; the first radio transceiver station providing to a second mobile communication device parameters useful to the second mobile communication device for receiving the probe signal; the first radio transceiver station performing a first measuring the probe signal; the first radio transceiver station receiving a second measure of the probe signal, performed by the second mobile communication device; the first radio transceiver station comparing the first and second measures; the first radio transceiver station commanding a switch of the communication of the first mobile communication device towards the second mobile communication device to a direct device-to-device communication based on a result of the comparing.

Abstract: A method for performance measurement in packet switched communication networks. The method includes generating a flow of artificial packets, which is then aggregated to the packet flow to be measured by an aggregator. The artificial packets are configured to follow the packet flow to be measured, starting from the point where aggregation is performed. Two measurement points are then provided after the aggregator, which provide respective raw performance measurements indicative of actual positions of the artificial packets in the aggregated packet flow. The raw performance measurements are then used for providing the performance measurements. Since all the raw performance measurements are generated after the aggregator, the measurement results are accurate without need to precisely insert the artificial packets at predetermined positions of the packet flow to be measured.

Abstract: A method for managing reputation scores of members of an online community, wherein each member is associated with a set of inviting members having invited that member to join the online community and with a set of invited members having being invited by that member to join the online community. The method includes, for each member: determining a respective reputation score at the time when he/she joins the online community; and updating the respective reputation score based on a change in the reputation score of at least one of: at least one inviting member among the respective set of inviting members, or at least one invited member among the respective set of invited members.

Abstract: A method for controlling a heating/cooling system located at a home of a user. For a population of users, occurrences of occupancy-related events occurring in the users' homes are detected. Then, occurrences of such occupancy-related events in different timeslots are counted separately for each user of the population. The counts of the various users are then merged and a topic model is applied thereto, to provide probabilities that latent habits give raise to certain sequences of occupancy-related events and proportions of each habit in the home occupancy routine of each user of the population. Thereby, a reliable forecast of the home occupancy routine of each user of the population may be provided. That allows setting the heating/cooling system of each user of the population to fit such reliable forecast, minimizing energy waste and/or maximizing user's comfort.

Abstract: A method positioning user equipment including a camera for acquiring digital images, including: defining a three-dimensional model of an environment through points defined by a set of coordinates and a color information; the user equipment acquiring a query image by capturing, by the camera, a portion of the environment; estimating an initial camera parameters configuration of the camera; evaluating a similarity between the query image and an initial three-dimensional image obtained from the three-dimensional model of the environment as seen by a virtual camera having the initial camera parameters configuration; modifying a camera parameters configuration of the virtual camera to increase similarity between the initial three-dimensional image and the query image up to a predetermined value; and generating an additional three-dimensional image based on the three-dimensional model of the environment, obtained from the three-dimensional model of the environment as seen by a modified virtual camera having the modified camera parameters configuration.

Abstract: A method assigning frequency bands on a cellular network including plural network nodes each configured to activate transmission links between pairs of corresponding network nodes to exchange traffic. The method includes, in response to assessment of a new transmission link to be activated between first and second network nodes: retrieving an indication of coordinates of first and second network nodes within a geographical area; retrieving an indication of resource sharing clusters, of the cellular network, each including a group of transmission links considered to potentially cause transmission collisions; selecting a set of the resource sharing clusters according to a comparison of coordinates of the first network node with coordinates of the network nodes corresponding to the transmission links of the resource sharing clusters; if the selected set of resource sharing clusters is not empty, carrying out operations including: activating a new transmission link by exploiting an assigned frequency band.

Abstract: A method for estimating a signal to interference and noise ratio of a communication link between a fist node and a second node of a wireless communication network, the network comprising a number of further communication links between said first node and a number of further nodes. The method comprises, at the first node, providing first estimates of useful signal powers on all the links; providing second estimates of the signal powers on the link and on the further communication links on the basis of, jointly, the first estimate of the signal power on the link and the first estimates of the signal powers on the further links; estimating the signal to interference and noise ratio as a ratio between the second estimate of the signal power on the link and a power term comprising a sum of the second estimates of the signal powers on the further links.
