Among the three metallic honeycomb bodies, (i) the metallic honeycomb bodies at front and rear positions have each been constructed by fixing a planar and corrugated bands as constituent members of said metallic honeycomb body at at least some of points of contact therebetween and also an outer peripheral wall of the metallic honeycomb body and an inner peripheral wall of the metallic casing at at least some of points of contact therebetween, and (ii) the metallic honeycomb body at a middle position has been constructed without fixing a planar and corrugated bands as constituent members of said metallic honeycomb body at points of contact therebetween and also an outer peripheral wall of the metallic honeycomb body and an inner peripheral wall of the metallic casing at points of contact therebetween.

    摘要: An exhaust manifold includes an inner shell providing a first flange having an interior and exterior surface and an outer shell cooperating with the inner shell to define an interior region therebetween. The outer shell provides a second flange having an exterior surface which is situated in spaced-apart relation to the interior surface of the first flange to form a flange-receiving space therebetween. The flange-receiving space provides an access opening into the interior region intermediate the inner and outer shells. At least one baffle is situated in the interior region. The at least one baffle includes a mounting flange nested between the first and second flanges and positioned in the flange-receiving space to extend through the access opening so that a distal portion of the mounting flange is exposed to exterior surroundings outside of the interior region defined by the inner and outer shells. Configuration of the at least one baffle is disclosed for use in single and dual exhaust manifolds.

    摘要: A method is provided for manufacturing a heat shield for an exhaust system component. The exhaust system component preferably is of tubular nonlinear configuration. The heat shield is formed from a larger pipe having an internal diameter greater than the outer diameter of the exhaust system component. Appropriately dimensioned inwardly directed supports are formed in the larger pipe. The larger pipe then is bent into a nonlinear configuration substantially identical to the configuration of the exhaust system component. The outer pipe then is cut longitudinally in half along its entire length to define a unitary nonlinear heat shield which can be mounted to the exhaust system component. A portion of the remaining half of the larger pipe can be reattached to the heat shield to provide an air gap pipe along a portion of the length of the exhaust system component.

    摘要: An exhaust silencer for use with small vehicles which use low speed engines and have minimal space available for the silencer while still requiring a long exhaust path to silence the low frequency engine pulsations. The silencer includes a silencer chamber with an axis, and an exhaust pipe with a U-shape, one arm of which extends axially into the chamber, and the other arm of which extends parallel to the axis outside of the chamber, both for a substantial part of the length of the chamber. At least the bight of the U-shaped pipe is double-walled to minimize the emission of pulsations from that portion of the exhaust pipe.
