Abstract: Method and apparatus of using Bi-directional optical flow (BIO) for a true bi-direction predicted block are disclosed. According to one method of the present invention, the gradients are limited to a predefined bit-depth in order to reduce the computational complexity. According to another method, the data range of gradient sum and/or the difference between L0 and L1 interpolated pixels are shifted by a predefined bit-depth. The pre-defined bit-depth can be implicitly determined or signalled in a bit stream at a sequence level, picture level or slice level. The pre-defined bit-depth can also be determined dependent on input bit-depth.

Abstract: A method of video coding using generalized bi-prediction (GBi) receives input data associated with a current block in a current picture, wherein the input data comprises information associated with a block size of the current block, determines a set of weighting factor pairs, wherein a size of the set of weighting factor pairs depends on the block size of the current block, and derives a set of advanced motion vector prediction (AMVP) candidate lists comprising MVP (motion vector prediction) candidates. The method further derives a set of final motion information based on the MVP candidates, determines that the set of final information comprises a bi-prediction predictor, generates a final predictor by combining two reference blocks associated with the final motion information using a target weighting factor pair selected from the set of weighting factor pairs, and encodes or decoding the current block using the final predictor.

Abstract: Video processing methods include receiving input data of a current block in a current picture, determining if a luma component and chroma components of the current block are coded using different splitting trees, disabling Adaptive Colour Transform (ACT) on the current block when the luma component and the chroma components of the current block are coded using different splitting trees, and encoding or decoding the current block. ACT is only allowed to be performed on blocks coded in single tree block partitioning to convert a RGB colour space into an YCoCg colour space. ACT is applied to residues according to some embodiments, or ACT is applied to input data and predictors according to some other embodiments.

Abstract: Method and apparatus of video coding are disclosed. According to the method, a boundary region in the current block is determined. For each pixel in the boundary region, an Intra predictor and an Inter predictor care derived. An Intra-Inter predictor is generated by blending the Intra predictor and the Inter predictor. Pixels in the boundary region of the current block are encoded or decoded using the Intra-Inter predictor. For the remaining pixels in the current block not belonging to the boundary region, the pixels are encoded or decoded using the Inter predictor or the Intra predictor. In another method, the Intra-Inter prediction process is implemented by scaling the sum of the Intra weighting factor and the Inter weighting factor is scaled to a power-of-2 number to avoid the need for the division operation. In yet another method, the Intra-Inter prediction is applied depending on the current block size.

Abstract: A method for specifying layout of subpictures in video pictures is provided. A video decoder receives data from a bitstream to be decoded as a current picture of a video. For a current subpicture of a set of subpictures of the current picture, the video decoder determines a position of the current subpicture based on a width and a height of the current picture and a previously determined width and height of a particular subpicture in the set of subpictures. The video decoder reconstructs the current picture and the current subpicture based on the determined position.

Abstract: A method for multiple transform selection (MTS) is provided. A video decoder receives data from a bitstream for a block of pixels to be decoded as a current block of a current picture of a video. The decoder sets a zero-out indication based on one or more non-zero coefficient indications of subblocks of the current block. When the zero-out indication indicates that a zero-out region has no non-zero coefficient, the decoder parses the bitstream for an MTS index. When the zero-out indication indicates that the zero-out region has at least one non-zero coefficient, the decoder sets the MTS index to a default value without parsing the MTS index from the bitstream. The decoder selects a transform mode according to the MTS index for the current block. The decoder reconstructs the current block by using the selected transform mode.

Abstract: A method and apparatus provide adaptive interpolation filter for motion compensation with fractional-pixel accuracy. Embodiments of the present invention generate interpolated reference samples at non-integer locations based on existing reference samples in a reference block by using an interpolation filter set adaptively according to pixel location and/or pixel characteristics. A current block is then encoded or decoded using a temporal predictor including the interpolated reference samples. The adaptive interpolation filter can be applied to the prediction unit (PU). In one embodiment, the interpolation filter set consists of interpolation filters having different filter lengths. An interpolation filter with a longer tap length is applied to generate interpolated reference samples farther from the block boundary and an interpolation filter with a shorter tap length is applied to generate interpolated reference samples closer to the block boundary.

Abstract: Method and apparatus of using Bilateral Template MV Refinement are disclosed to improve coding efficiency or reducing complexity. According to yet another method, the Bilateral Template MV Refinement is performed motion vectors selected from candidates of AMVP (advance MV prediction) candidate list. According to yet another method, the Bilateral Template MV Refinement used a modified template to refine motion vector.

Abstract: A video codec receives data for a block of pixels to be encoded or decoded as a current block of a current picture of a video. The video codec signals or parses a first syntax element for a first coding mode in a particular set of two or more coding modes. Each of coding mode of the particular set of coding modes modifies a merge candidate or an inter-prediction that is generated based on the merge candidate. The video codec enables the first coding mode and disables one or more other coding modes in the particular set of coding modes. The disabled one or more coding modes in the particular set of coding modes are disabled without parsing syntax elements for the disabled coding modes. The video codec encodes or decodes the current block by using the enabled first coding mode and bypassing the disabled coding modes.
