Abstract:
Fertility in a plant is controlled by inactivating a gene critical to fertility, and inserting into the plant the criticial gene linked to an inducible promoter.

Abstract:
An improved animal waste collection and screening device having two litter pans in opposed orientation, an opened face of a first litter pan in facing arrangement with an open face of the second litter pan with a screen member in interposed relationship between the opposing litter pans. Tracks on the screen member guide and receive the first pan on a first face side of the screen member and guide and receive the second pan on a second face side of the screen member, holding the two pans securely together. The screen member provides on one longitudinal end a handle and two catches, one catch for engaging each said litter pan when each said litter pan is fully received by said tracks and properly oriented with respect to the screen member and the respective other litter pan. The catches are located approximate to the handle for convenient one hand engagement and disengagement, and are self engaging and manually disengaging devices. The screening device including the pans and the screen member, can be composed of a molded plastic. Once both pans are engaged to the screen member, the entire device can be transported by a person using the handle for convenience.
Abstract:
Sacrificial agents employed in methods of obtaining oil from rock formations by surfactant flooding comprising oxidized and/or chlorinated lignin and lignin-like derivatives obtained form inexpensive and readily available sources. In one form of the invention such derivatives present in E-stage wood pulp bleach plant effluent are concentrated by the use of macroporous resins, reverse osmosis or membrane dialysis. In another form of the invention, new sources of the derivatives are provided from forest industry by-products. In a further form of the invention, the derivatives are complexed with iron which significantly improves the sacrificial agent activity of the derivatives. Such sacrificial agents reduce the amount of expensive surfactant required in the oil recovery method.
Abstract:
The broom assembly of the present invention comprises of a broom shroud having an opening in its top, said broom shroud including resilient means depending inwardly toward said opening; bristle retaining means including ferrule means integral therewith and extending upwardly therefrom, said ferrule means adapted to receive said resilient means; a broom handle removably received in said ferrule, and fastening means engaging the ferrule means, whereby said resilient means is flexed inwardly against the handle upon tightening said fastening means.
Abstract:
An electric cable having a core made of insulated conductors disposed within a polymeric sheath. Voids within the core, between the conductors, are at least partially filled in the unused cable with a mixture comprising untreated calcium carbonate and a water-attracting polymer able to form a gel on contact with water without swelling. The cables are made waterproof by the presence of the mixture, which is cheaper than prior mixtures but as effective.
Abstract:
A non-monotonic re-entrant band stop filter equalizer includes terminations and couplers. A first port of a first coupler is coupled as a first external port, and a second port of the first coupler is coupled to a band stop filter. A third port of the first coupler is coupled to a fourth port of a second coupler, and a fourth port of the first coupler is coupled to a first termination. A first port of the second coupler is coupled to the band stop filter, and a second port of the second coupler is coupled as a second external port. A third port of the second coupler is coupled to a second termination. At least one of the first directional coupler and/or second directional coupler may include at least one of a backward coupler and/or forward coupler.
Abstract:
A fractional beam forming network antenna includes a beam forming network and a plurality of antennas. The network includes input ports, output ports, and at least one delay device. The beam forming network couples input ports to the output ports through the at least one delay device. The antennas are vertically disposed relative to each other, and coupled to the output ports. At least two of the antennas include a different elevation tilt and/or azimuth rotation relative to each other. A method of fractional beam forming is provided, which includes coupling, using a beam forming network, input ports to output ports through at least one delay device; disposing a plurality of antennas vertically relative to each other; coupling the antennas to the output ports; and rotating at least two of the antennas in different elevation and/or different azimuth relative to each other.

The approved email generation system described is capable of producing email communications between user and customer by using approved email templates and content that have been aligned with customer information regarding access to such content. The approved email template comprises data pulled from a record for a medical inquiry and a window for receiving free text responding to the medical inquiry. Once the approved email has been generated, the content may be verified again for accuracy and validity and the free text may be checked for any unapproved word before being delivered to the customer.
