Abstract: An endoscope includes a distal tip with a sterile cap disposed on the distal tip. The sterile cap reduces the exposure of the distal tip to contamination and includes an integrating sphere that enables calibration of an image sensor disposed in the endoscope. By enabling calibration of the image sensor while the sterile cap remains on the distal tip of the endoscope, the image sensor can be calibrated while maintaining the sterility of the endoscope. The sterile cap can be disposed on the distal tip of the endoscope under sterile conditions, placed in a sterile packaging, and can be removed just before a medical procedure to reduce the risk of exposing the endoscope to contamination.

Abstract: A system for determining image capture degradation of a camera sensor is disclosed. The system is configured to capture a series of image frames by a camera of a vehicle over time. The system is configured to generate a latent image from a series of images captured by the camera. The system generates a plurality of frequency layers based on the latent image by, for example, performing a high frequency multiscale fusion transform. The system generates a plurality of frequency layers, each corresponding a spectral sub-band frequency, and each frequency layer includes the coefficients. The system generates a degradation map based on the processed activation map and generates an output based on the activation map. The output may be provided to an output system to wash the camera lens, notify a user or the vehicle of blockage, or modify image processing.

Abstract: A vehicular driver assistance system includes a camera that views through the windshield of the vehicle and a control device having an image processor that processes captured image data. Responsive to processing of captured image data by the image processor, the system adjusts a light beam emitted by a headlamp of the vehicle. The control device, responsive at least in part to image data processing by the image processor, determines when the vehicle is at a construction zone. Responsive to determination that the vehicle is at a construction zone, image processing of image data captured by the camera is adjusted to discriminate construction zone signs from taillights of leading vehicles. Responsive to determination of the vehicle exiting the construction zone, the control device adjusts the light beam emitted by the headlamp of the vehicle responsive to determination of headlamps of approaching vehicles and taillights of leading vehicles.

Abstract: Embodiments are described for detecting optical discrepancies associated with image capture analyzing pixels in multiple images corresponding to common points of reference in a physical environment. In an embodiment, photometric error values are averaged over time to compute the mean error at each pixel. Once the estimate of the mean error has a sufficient number of updates above a specified value, the estimate is thresholded to provide a mask of any optical discrepancies occurring in the stereo pair of images. Applications include detecting optical discrepancies in images captured for use by a visual navigation system in guiding an autonomous vehicle (e.g., an unmanned aerial vehicle).
