    Abstract: An electrode assembly for a battery includes: a positive electrode plate including a positive electrode current collector plate, a positive electrode active material layer on a surface of the plate, at least one uncoated portion at which no positive electrode active material is applied, and at least one positive electrode tab electrically attached and coupled to the uncoated portion, and protruding upwardly from an upper portion of the electrode assembly; a negative electrode plate including a negative electrode current collector plate, a negative electrode active material layer on a surface of the plate, at least one uncoated portion in which no negative electrode active material is applied, at least one negative electrode tab electrically attached and coupled to the uncoated portion, and protruding downwardly from a lower portion of the electrode assembly; and a separator between the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate.

    Abstract: A secondary battery includes an electrode assembly including a first separator, a negative electrode plate on the first separator, a second separator on the negative electrode plate, and a positive electrode plate on the second separator, the electrode assembly wound in a jelly-roll shape having a winding start end and a winding finish end, and having a flat portion, and curved portions respectively at one side of the flat portion and at another side of the flat portion, and a finishing tape attached to the winding finish end of the electrode assembly wound in the jelly-roll shape, wherein the positive electrode plate covers an outer surface of the electrode assembly wound in the jelly-roll shape, and has a finish end terminating on the flat portion.

    Abstract: Aspects involve systems and methods for producing an electrode laminate for a battery that includes a tension device to maintain tension on an electrode stack as the stack is cut into a shape. The tension device may include a first roller and a second. The upper roller may rotate in a counterclockwise direction as the lower roller rotates in a clockwise direction to pull or otherwise draw a skeleton of a cut stack through the tension device. A collection of spaced flexible and resilient flaps may be connected to the upper roller and may rotate with the upper roller. A contacting edge of each of the flaps may contact the skeleton of the stack and gently pull the skeleton through the tension device providing a relatively continuous pull on the stack as it proceeds through a cutting station.
