摘要: An emission enhancement structure having at least one energy augmentation structure; and an energy converter capable of receiving energy from an energy source, converting the energy and emitting therefrom a light of a different energy than the received energy. The energy converter is disposed in a vicinity of the at least one energy augmentation structure such that the emitted light is emitted with an intensity larger than if the converter were remote from the at least one energy augmentation structure. Also described are various uses for the energy emitters, energy augmentation structures and energy collectors in a wide array of fields, particularly medical uses for treatment of cell proliferation disorders.

摘要: An imaging device includes: a semiconductor substrate; an effective pixel region including an effective pixel; a non-effective pixel region that is located around the effective pixel region and that does not include the effective pixel; a photoelectric converter that is located above the semiconductor substrate and that includes a first portion located in the effective pixel region and a second portion located in the non-effective pixel region; a light-shielding film that is located above the second portion of the photoelectric converter and that contains titanium or tantalum; and a functional film that is located on the light-shielding film and that is in contact with the light-shielding film. The functional film has a thickness less than a thickness of the light-shielding film.

摘要: A photovoltaic array of photovoltaic solar cells; a smart dynamic programmable circuit breaker for electrically providing a pulsed 100 microseconds duration short circuit to the photovoltaic array electrical outputs, wherein a response time for the smart dynamic programmable circuit breaker is more than 1 millisecond when responding to a short circuit; a computer program comprising instructions that when executed by the processor perform functions that control the smart dynamic programmable circuit breaker, the computer program comprising: instructions to command the smart dynamic programmable circuit breaker to initiate the 100 microsecond pulsed short circuit; instructions to measure a current magnitude and current rise time of the smart photovoltaic system outputs during the 100 microsecond pulsed short circuit; and instructions to select a behavior curve from a plurality of smart dynamic programmable circuit breaker behavior curves 10% above the current magnitude and current rise time during the pulsed short circuit.

摘要: Luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) based on engineered quantum dots (QDs) are disclosed that include at least one lower band-gap energy LSC layer and at least one higher band-gap energy LSC layer. The higher band-gap energy LSC layer has a higher internal quantum efficiency (IQE) than the lower band-gap energy LSC layer. The lower band-gap energy LSC layer may broadly absorb the remainder of the solar spectrum that is not absorbed by previous layers. An external optical efficiency (EQE) of at least 6%, and in some cases, more than 10%, may be achieved by such LSCs.

摘要: An electrode for beta-photovoltaic cells includes: a substrate formed of a conductive layer with a thickness ranging between about 10 nm to 1 micron; a composite layer of radioluminescent phosphor with radioisotope particles homogeneously dispersed therein formed on conductive substrate with a thickness ranging between about 1 and 25 microns; and a semiconductor comprising a P-i-N/P-u-N junction or a N-i-P-P junction. The radioisotope may be a beta-emitter, such as Ni-63, H-3, Pm-147, or Sr-90/Y-90.

摘要: A method for nanoparticle fabrication deposits a seed layer of a transparent conductive oxide onto a substrate and deposits a layer of a plasmonic metal onto the transparent conductive oxide layer. The method forms nanoparticles from the deposited metal by transporting the substrate along a transport path and, as the substrate is moving, energizing one or more flash lamps disposed along the transport path to apply a plurality of light pulses that impart a dewetting energy to the deposited metal layer.

摘要: A luminescent solar concentrator including a light propagation device, one or more photovoltaic cells, and one or more waveguides is provided. The light propagation device includes a plurality of nanostructures configured to permit preferential propagation of a wavelength range of light in one direction. The one or more photovoltaic cells are positioned adjacent an end of the light propagation device. The one or more waveguides are configured to guide light toward the one or more photovoltaic cells via total internal reflection within the luminescent solar concentrator.

摘要: When a solar wavelength conversion material (solar spectral wavelength converter) produced based on a low-cost aluminum material having an ultraviolet ray absorption spectrum and a visible light emitting spectrum is positioned between a solar cell and an encapsulant of the front surface of the solar cell on which solar light is incident, photocurrent conversion efficiency of the solar cell may be improved by inducing a down-conversion effect and an anti-reflective coating effect at the same time, thereby increasing light-generated current.
