摘要： A data storage apparatus comprises a tape cartridge having a cartridge memory which is configured to store data representing a distinctive identity of the memory and data representing a distinctive identity of the cartridge. The cartridge has a data storage tape storing WORM data in a succession of data sets. Each data set is recorded with data representing a respectively associated data set information table. The data set information table includes an identifying data structure including data representing the identity of the cartridge memory and the data representing the identity of the cartridge. The integrity of all the WORM data written at any point along the tape can be checked against tampering by reference to the data structure that is recorded with each WORM data set.

摘要： A plurality of digital signals having total data rates of n bit/s or less are input to a digital recording device recording digital signals having a data rate of n bit/s. The digital signals are subjected to format-conversion for the digital recording device to be recorded therein. Furthermore, signals having a data rate of n/i.sub.1 bit/s or less are subjected to format-conversion to be recorded i.sub.1 times in the digital recording device. In the case where the data rate of the digital signals to be input is n/j bit/s, the digital signals are subjected to format-conversion so that the amount of data capable of being recorded per unit time is decreased by i/j; thus, the digital signals are recorded for a long period of time under the condition that the data recording time is prolonged j times. Furthermore, when input data to be recorded on a magnetic tape at a normal data rate by using a magnetic head mounted on a rotary cylinder is recorded, the recording device of the present invention makes it possible to select a plurality of types of track angles generated by the rotation number of the cylinder, the tape traveling speed, and the like.

摘要： A tape deck system uses four sensors to read features on a tape cartridge to determine control operations. A first sensor determines and a second sensor indicate a condition from a set comprising standard tape cartridge present with file protect, standard tape cartridge present without file protect, cleaning cartridge present, and a standard cartridge quiescent state. The remaining two sensors are used with a special cartridge. The special cartridge has features that indicate, to the first two sensors, that the tape deck system is in the standard cartridge quiescent state. A third and fourth sensors then read features on the special cartridge indicating cartridge type and file protect status. This system allows special cartridges, such as those that may contain thin tape, to only be accessed by tape deck systems equipped to handle the special cartridges. The sensor for indicating the special cartridge type may be modified to also indicate that the cartridge is properly seated in the tape deck.

摘要： A recording medium cassette being easily miniaturized if necessary, and a recording and/or reproducing apparatus, such as a VTR, adapted to use the same recording medium cassette. The recording medium cassette includes a printed wiring board having a plurality of information indicating contacts and which is fixed to the bottom wall of a case of the recording medium cassette so that the information indicating contacts are accessible from outside through slots formed in the bottom wall. The recording and/or reproducing apparatus is provided with a plurality of information detecting contacts respectively corresponding to the information indicating contacts of the recording medium cassette. The information detecting contacts may respectively contact the information indicating contacts upon insertion of the recording medium cassette into the recording and/or reproducing apparatus so as to enable information to be transferred therebetween. The VTR is adapted to use both a small-sized tape cassette and a large-sized tape cassette.
