Abstract: A delivery assembly for an ingestible device to deliver a fluid preparation into a GI lumen wall or surrounding tissue of a subject includes a housing, a piston, a needle, a conduit, and a valve member. The housing defines a piston chamber. The piston is movably disposed in the piston chamber. The needle is coupled to, or integrally formed with, the piston. The conduit is structured to direct the fluid preparation from a fluid source to the needle. The valve member has a first state and a second state. In the first state, the valve member substantially impedes a flow of the fluid preparation from the conduit to the needle. In the second state, the valve member is structured to allow the fluid preparation to flow through the conduit to the needle.

Abstract: Described here are devices, systems, and methods for treating one or more conditions (such as dry eye) or improving ocular health by providing stimulation to nasal or sinus tissue. Generally, the devices may be handheld or implantable. In some variations, the handheld devices may have a stimulator body and a stimulator probe having one or more nasal insertion prongs. When the devices and systems are used to treat dry eye, nasal or sinus tissue may be stimulated to increase tear production, reduce the symptoms of dry eye, and/or improve ocular surface health.

Abstract: A foam earplug for reception at least partially within the ear canal and including a body portion formed of resilient foam plastic material having a multiple open cell structure and having a size and shape for at least partial reception within the ear canal. A transdermal material having a particular beneficial action, and with an outer layer of the foam earplug infused with the transdermal material so that the benefits of the transdermal material is in transdermal contact with the ear canal. One example is a humectant material and, specifically, a moisturizer/lubricating material, for providing an increase to the lubrication and moisturizing in the ear canal. A second example is where the beneficial action is provided by systemic distribution such as a sleep aid, i.e., Melatonin, so that when the earplugs are worn during sleep, the earplugs will provide a sleep aid to the wearer.

Abstract: A capsule device (100) suitable for ingestion for travelling into a lumen of the gastrointestinal tract of a patient, the lumen having a lumen wall, wherein the capsule device (100) is configured as a self-righting capsule comprising: a) a capsule housing (110, 120) comprising a compartment and an exterior tissue engaging surface (123) defining an exit opening (124) leading from the compartment to the capsule exterior, b) a tissue penetrating member (130) arranged along an axis and configured to be advanced axially from a first position in the compartment through the exit opening (124) and into the lumen wall at a target location, and c) an actuator (140, 150) for coupling to the tissue penetrating member (130), the actuator (140, 150) configured, upon actuation, to move from the a first configuration to a second configuration thereby advancing the tissue penetrating member (130) axially from the first position and into the lumen wall, wherein the actuator (140, 150) comprises a spring (140) formed as a tapered helical tension spring, the spring (140) having a wide first end coupled to the capsule housing (110, 120) and a narrow second end that couples to the tissue penetrating member (130), wherein, in the first configuration, accumulated tension in the spring (140) is maintained, and wherein, upon actuation, accumulated tension in the spring (140) is released thereby moving the actuator (140, 150) towards the second configuration.

Abstract: An implantable device for delivering a therapeutic agent to treat an ear of a patient includes a body having a distal end region and a proximal end region. The body defines, at least in part, a reservoir configured to contain the therapeutic agent. The device includes a shaft attached to the distal end region of the body and a lumen extending through the shaft having at least one inlet at a proximal end region in fluid communication with the reservoir and at least one outlet at a distal end region. Upon implantation of the body in a region of the ear, a length of the shaft is sufficient to extend from the body to at least the round window membrane of the ear. The device is configured to deliver the therapeutic agent to the ear from the reservoir via passive diffusion. Related devices and methods are described.
