摘要： An intra-premises communication system enables the use of a preinstalled wired transmission channels, yet allowing a particular communication system to be located at a desired region in the premises. The system comprises an exchange box adapted to be installed in the premises and provided with different interfaces for connection to different networks. A plurality of the wired transmission channels extend from the exchange box and terminate to receptacles which are installed in the premises and have common connectors. A plurality of indoor wireless terminals of different types are provided for use within the premises. A plurality of local transmitter-receivers of different types are provided in correspondence to the types of the wireless terminals. Each of the local transmitter-receivers is detachably and selectively mounted to the common connector of the receptacle for wired communication with one of the networks through the associated transmission channel. The local transmitter-receivers have individual antennas or the like member for wireless communication with at least one of the terminals. The exchange box includes a switch for connecting the transmission channels selectively to particular ones of the interfaces, thereby allocating local transmitter-receivers and the associated terminals to the different networks. The receptacles can be preinstalled in the like fashion as the conventional electrical receptacles so that a desired wireless communication system can be located at a suitable region simply by mounting the local transmitter-receiver of the selected type to the common connector of the receptacle.

摘要： A cordless telephone set advantageously includes a wireless test mode accessible by a user for evaluating performance levels of operating parameters in the cordless telephone set in diverse geographical locations. When configured in a normal operating mode, the cordless telephone set provides normal wireless communications. When configured in the wireless test mode, the cordless telephone set provides audible and visual input to its user for use in determining a maximum acceptable separation distance for satisfactory communications between a telephone handset unit and its associated base unit in the cordless telephone set. This operating range determination for the cordless telephone set is achieved by providing a simulation of a recognizable tone, such as dial tone, to which a user subjectively listens while testing an application environment. At the same time, statistical readings of signal strength and voice quality also are provided in a display on the telephone handset unit while in this wireless test mode. The simulated tone and the statistical readings allow the user to quickly and easily correlate effective, usable operating range for the cordless telephone set.

摘要： A cordless telephone system is arranged for extending the operating range of a cordless telephone portable unit within such system. The cordless telephone system comprises a plurality of cordless telephone stations that plug into any available wall telephone jack and may share the intrapremises telephone wire-pair with one or more existing corded telephone stations without interference. Each cordless telephone station consists of a cordless telephone base unit and its associated cordless telephone portable unit. Although each of the portable units is associated with a particular base unit, all of the portable units are able to operate with any of the base units in the system. As a user of a portable unit with a call in progress roams about a premises, all base units monitor the quality of the radio frequency signal received from the portable unit. If the signal quality of a base unit actively communicating with the portable unit deteriorates to below an acceptable level, control apparatus in the system identifies another base unit and executes a hand-off of the communication link with the portable unit to this base unit that is then receiving the signal from the handset unit with an acceptable signal quality. Operational control for the base units is provided through a time division multiple access arrangement wherein a communications channel is imposed on the existing premises telephone wire-pair above the audio frequency band used for standard telephone service.

The portable terminal sets a radio channel between the radio base station for the cordless telephone to which this portable terminal belongs and this portable terminal when the ID code of the radio base station for this cordless telephone is detected. Thus, when a telephone call is made, a telephone communication can be made by the portable terminal via the radio base station of this cordless telephone, resulting in a low-cost telephone communication.

摘要： A communication procedure suitable for a cordless telephone system involves time division duplex radio communication between a handset 11 and a base station using alternating bursts of transmission over a single radio channel. Once a radio link has been set up, initial transmissions carry a synchronization logical channel S and a signalling logical channel D multiplexed together, but the link may switch to bursts carrying a communications logical channel B for the speech data and the signalling logical channel D. Burst synchronization is achieved by the asynchronous detection of words in a synchronization channel S. These words have bit patterns reducing the probability of incorrect asynchronous detection of them. If one part ceases to receive handset signals from the other, it transmits a special signal, informing the other part. This enables both parts to detect the failure of a link at substantially the same time, so that their actions to re-establish the link are synchronized.
