Abstract: Various examples are provided related to photovoltaic systems that utilize multiple current source inverters. In one example, a solar inverter system includes DC-DC current source converters coupled to a DC link and a grid-frequency inverter coupled to the DC link. The DC power can be converted from energy obtained from a photovoltaic (PV) panel coupled to the DC-DC current source converters and the grid-frequency inverter can generate AC power from the DC power provided to the DC link.

Abstract: A protection device is disclosed which may comprise a first sensor, a first switch or a controller. The first switch may be connected between the first busbar and a reference terminal. The first switch may be configured to connect or disconnect the first busbar to and from the reference terminal. The controller may be coupled to the first sensor and to the first switch and may be configured to control the first switch to connect the first busbar to the reference terminal (e.g., based on the measurement of the first electrical characteristic indicating a change in the first electrical characteristic).

The one or more high voltage switches are formed by semi-controlled devices or fully controlled or any other suitable semiconductor devices. The plurality of inductors are arranged in the one or more chain links to limit circulating current among the one or more chain links. The one or more chain links are configured to enhance a power handling capability of the hybrid modular multilevel converter.

Abstract: According to an embodiment of the invention, a power conversion device that includes a power converter, a direct current capacitor, a voltage sensor, a rectifying element, an electromagnetic contactor, and a control circuit is provided. The power converter includes a pair of direct current terminals connected to a direct current power supply, includes multiple alternating current terminals connected to an electric power system of alternating current, converts direct current power input from the direct current power supply into alternating current power, and supplies the alternating current power to the electric power system. The direct current capacitor is connected between the pair of direct current terminals. The voltage sensor detects a voltage value of the direct current capacitor. The rectifying element is provided between the direct current capacitor and the direct current power supply and suppresses a reverse flow of electrical power from the power converter and the direct current capacitor into the direct current power supply. The electromagnetic contactor is connected in parallel with the rectifying element. The control circuit controls operations of the power converter and the electromagnetic contactor. In the case where the voltage value of the direct current capacitor detected by the voltage sensor is a prescribed value or more, the control circuit engages the electromagnetic contactor and supplies active power from the power converter to the electric power system; and in the case where the voltage value of the direct current capacitor detected by the voltage sensor is less than the prescribed value, the control circuit opens the electromagnetic contactor and supplies a reactive power from the power converter to the electric power system.

A second input and output part outputs the alternating-current power to a power system or a load and to which an alternating-current power is input from the power system. The conversion part converts the alternating-current power input to the second input and output part into direct-current power. The second voltage transform part transforms the direct-current power converted by the conversion part and transforms the direct-current power input to the first input and output part. The conversion part converts the direct-current power transformed by the second voltage transform part into alternating-current power.
