    摘要: A fluorescent lamp has an amalgam chamber that is in communication with the interior of the lamp through an exhaust tube. The amalgam chamber is constructed as a three-way junction with the exhaust tube and is formed at a supplementary angle of 180 degree or less with respect to the exhaust tube. The construction of the chamber utilizes the force of gravity to keep the amalgam away from the opening of the exhaust tube leading to the interior of the lamp. The amalgam chamber is capable of effectively retaining the amalgam within the chamber and preventing it from penetrating into the interior of the lamp regardless of mounting direction.

    摘要: A flat type indicator tube is provided with a box-like cover glass on a substrate. The cover glass forms an air tight space together with the substrate. In the space, there are provided display sections each consisting of a plurality of anode segments disposed on the substrate, grid and cathode electrodes provided above the display sections. The cover glass is comprised of a flat major section, a side wall and a flange section. The flange section comprises a flat flange contacting the substrate through glass frit and a coupling portion so shaped as to receive one end portion of the exhaust tube therein. A projection is formed on and substantially perpendicular to the inner wall of the coupling portion of the flange section. The projection is contacted and serves to restrict undesired excessive insertion of the exhaust tube into the coupling portion. The exhaust tube is hermetically fixed between the coupling portion and the substrate through glass frit.

The workpiece is then placed in the desired controlled environment (e.g. a vacuum).     摘要: The display panel comprises a gas-filled envelope which includes a base plate on which a plurality of groups of cathodes and their conductors are formed, each group of cathodes being operable to display a character. The envelope also includes a face plate, spaced from the base plate, and carrying transparent conductive anodes, each associated with one group of cathodes. The base plate of the panel is provided with a hole and a short, smalldiameter tube axially aligned with the hole and extending away from the outer surface of the base plate. The usual tubulation is secured to the outer surface of the base plate enclosing the hole and the short tube, and the desired gas and mercury vapor are introduced into the panel envelope through the tubulation and through the short tube and hole in the base plate. The short tube prevents large mercury globules, which might be present in the sealed-off tubulation, from accidentally getting into the panel envelope.

    摘要: An amalgam is accurately placed and retained in an optimized location in the exhaust tube of an electrodeless SEF lamp for operation at a mercury vapor pressure in the optimum range from approximately four to seven millitorr by forming a dimple in the exhaust tube and using a dose locating member to locate and retain the amalgam on the side of the dimple away from the core of the lamp after filling the lamp. As an alternative, two dimples may be situated on opposite sides of the exhaust tube for performing the same function as, but with less depth than, the single dimple. In another alternative embodiment, first and second dimple configurations are formed in the exhaust tube after tip-off thereof, each dimple configuration including either one or two dimples. The second dimple configuration is spaced apart from the first dimple configuration along the length of the exhaust tube. In this way, the amalgam may be initially positioned farther from the tip-off region, thereby avoiding problems during tipping off of the exhaust tube, such as loss of mercury from the lamp, or quenching of the tip which could cause stress cracks. After tip-off, the second dimple configuration allows for placement of the amalgam closer to, or preferably in contact with, the tip of the sealed exhaust tube, i.e., the coolest location in the exhaust tube.

    摘要: An amalgam is accurately placed and retained in an optimal location near the cold spot of an electrodeless SEF lamp for operation at a mercury vapor pressure in the optimum range from approximately four to seven millitorr. The amalgam is positioned at the tip of an extended exhaust tube near the apex of the lamp envelope by forming an indentation in the exhaust tube and, in some embodiments, a dose locating member in combination therewith. An evacuation hole is formed below the indentation for evacuation of the lamp envelope, or bulb, during lamp fabrication. In an alternative embodiment, the extension of the exhaust tube is situated perpendicular to the main portion of the tube to allow for lateral adjustment of the position of the amalgam, thereby allowing for even further control of the amalgam operating temperature.
