    Abstract: An ultrasound probe and method of use are provided, wherein an ultrasound emitting transducer is mounted on an axial element which is supported in a rotatable configuration. A compliant element, such as a high temperature silicone rubber, provides a contact surface for the welding locations being probed and defines the outside of a space to which coolant is provided. The coolant ensures optimum operating conditions for the transducer, even when used to probing welding locations which are still at high temperatures, for instance in excess of 350° C. A probe which can be used closer to and sooner after welding has occurred results.

    Abstract: A housing of an ultrasonic sensor includes a plurality of layers of a housing material integrally connected together to form the housing. A first section of the housing has a first plurality of layers of the housing material each with a first thickness. A second section of the housing has a second plurality of layers of the housing material each with a second thickness. The second thickness is greater than the first thickness and an ultrasonic wave transmitted through the housing has a greater transmission efficiency in the first section than in the second section.

    Abstract: Acoustic balances configured for weighing in ultrasonic non-contact manipulators, and associated systems and methods are described. In one embodiment, a method for a non-contact acoustic determination of a mass of an object includes capturing the object within an acoustic trap of an acoustic balance. The method also includes, in response to changing at least one acoustic parameter of the acoustic balance, changing an equilibrium position of the object; and in response to changing the equilibrium position of the object, causing the object to oscillate. The method also includes determining a resonant frequency of oscillation of the object; and based on the resonant frequency of oscillation of the object, determining the mass of the object.

    Abstract: A method is provided for calibrating a device for non-destructive inspection of a mechanical part.     Abstract: Acoustic evaluation of a target can be performed using an array of electro-acoustic transducers. For example. a technique for such evaluation can include generating acoustic transmission events using different transmitting apertures, the apertures defined by corresponding zones along the array, the zones including multiple electro-acoustic transducer elements. In response to the respective acoustic transmission events. respective acoustic echo signals are received. Representations of the respective received acoustic echo signals are coherently summed. The coherently summing includes applying determined nominal element delay factors to the respective representations to approximate a virtual probe normal to a nominal shape of a surface of a structure being inspected. A pixel or voxel value is corresponding to a specified spatial location within the structure being inspected is generated using the coherently summed representations.
