摘要: A motor-driven control valve for cryogenically liquified rocket propellant comprises a valve casing with a co-axial inlet port and outlet port, a slidable regulating sleeve, an electric motor, a gear, a drive chamber within the casing, and a drive transmission in the drive chamber. The regulating sleeve is centrally arranged and slidably mounted and sealed in the valve casing and the drive chamber. Flow slots are circumferentially distributed around the regulating sleeve. The externally mounted motor and gear control the position of the regulating sleeve through the drive transmission. Sliding adjustment of the position of the sleeve regulates the exposed cross-section of the flow slots, thereby also regulating the open and closed switching of the control valve. The regulating sleeve is the only moving part exposed to the flowing liquid, and the liquid pressure and flow forces act only radially on the axially slidable sleeve, so that the hydraulic forces do not influence the driving force required for opening and closing the valve.

摘要: A rotary plug valve is disclosed in a preferred embodiment that has two telescoping seat assemblies that fit into respective recesses provided in the valve body surrounding a passageway through the plug valve. A valve chamber is formed in the valve body into which the rotary plug may be positioned to control flow through the valve by rotation thereof. In a preferred embodiment, the telescoping seat assemblies provide an upstream and a downstream seal with the rotary plug. The telescoping seat assemblies preferably function differently when in the open and closed position so that both assemblies expand when in the open position whereas in the closed position one assembly expands and one is compressed A line pressure surface is provided to provide a force against the plug seal seat element. The plug seal seat element and plug mate with a curved surface and the contact stress varies depending on the location along the curved surface. The line pressure surface is made large enough so that a sufficient portion of the mating surface has a contact stress greater than line pressure so as to form a fluid tight, e.g., gas tight, seal. In one preferred embodiment, the line pressure surface is made large enough so that the average contact stress is greater than line pressure. In another embodiment, the seals are comprised of a non-permeable material that is sufficiently flexible to conform to sealing surfaces.

摘要: A valve assembly has a valve body with a bore formed therein. A valve spool is slidably disposed in the valve body. The valve spool has a plurality of valve lands that closely engage the valve bore to form substantially leak-free interfaces. The leading land has a diameter less than the land immediately adjacent thereto in a range of 0.34 mm to 0.17 mm, and a recess formed between the leading land and the first adjacent land. The recess has an inner diameter at least 0.75 mm less than said diameter of said leading land.

摘要: A lightweight flow control valve for use in cooling towers is provided. The valve includes a lightweight, thin-walled valve body having a flow bore, an inlet port, and an outlet port. The outlet port is disposed in a substantially perpendicular relationship relative to the inlet port. The valve body has a substantially frusto-conically shaped interior surface defining the flow bore. A lightweight, thin-walled barrel having an inlet, an outlet, and a fluid passageway extending between the inlet and the outlet is disposed within the flow bore of the valve body. The inlet of the barrel is concentrically positioned relative to the inlet port of the valve body and the outlet of the barrel is disposed in a substantially perpendicular relationship relative to the inlet of the barrel. The barrel has a substantially frusto-conically shaped exterior surface sealingly engageable against the frusto-conically shaped interior surface of the valve body to provide a substantially fluid-tight seal when the barrel is in a closed position wherein the outlet of the barrel is aligned with the interior surface of the valve body. The barrel is disposed in the internal cavity of the valve body so as to be axially movable to a non-sealing position relative to the valve body to permit the barrel to be rotated to an open position wherein at least a portion of the outlet of the barrel is in open communication with the outlet port of the valve body.

摘要: An arm-driven sleeve valve utilizes a single pin connection to transmit torque from a shaft of the sleeve valve to a pair of arm portions suspended therefrom for controlling the flow of fluid from the valve by axially moving a gate. The single pin connection is centrally positioned between the arm portions and ensures the each of the arm portions exerts an equal force on the gate, regardless of torsional deflection of the shaft. Use of the invention allows arm-driven sleeve valves to be driven asymmetrically from only one of opposite axial ends of the shaft without tending to bind the gate against the main body of the valve.
