Abstract:
An outdoor power tool may include an engine, a carburetor configured to provide a fuel and air mixture to the engine based on operation of a throttle assembly, a selector and a throttle release actuator. The selector may be operably coupled to the throttle assembly to control a position of the throttle assembly in a selected one of a plurality of throttle positions. One of the throttle positions may be an idle position and each of the other throttle positions may be selectable by an operator via manual positioning of the selector. The throttle release actuator may be configured to return the selector from any one of the throttle positions to the idle position responsive to operator actuation of the throttle release actuator.
Abstract:
Fuel efficiency of small carbureted engines can be improved through the use of a fuel shut off valve that ceases fuel flow in the carburetor upon determination that the engine throttle has been closed and the engine is not at or near an idle condition.
Abstract:
A device for reducing noxious emissions from carburetor engines of the internal combustion type, the body of which comprises at least one main passage designed for feeding a fuel-air mixture to the engine cylinders and has an emulsion passage. The main passage accommodates a throttle valve which divides it into an upstream throttle space and a downstream throttle space, as viewed in the direction of the fuel-air mixture flow. The emulsion passage communicates with the upstream throttle space substantially in the area where the throttle valve upper edge locates when the throttle valve is in the closed position and also communicates further, as viewed in the direction of the emulsion flow, via an adjustable throttle element with a chamber which communicates via an air passage with the upstream throttle space and via a passage with the downstream throttle space. The chamber accommodates a movable element adapted to move coaxially with the passage for the purpose of closing same. A sleeve is installed in the chamber in such a manner that a narrow annular passage is formed between the inner wall of the sleeve and the outer wall of the movable element. Said annular passage connects with the emulsion passage downstream of the adjustable throttling element with respect to the direction of the emulsion flow and separates the chamber space communicating with the downstream throttle space from the chamber space which communicates with the upstream throttle space.
Abstract:
improved fuel consumption rates are achieved by utilizing a novel flow regulator on a standard carburetor used in an internal combustion controlled ignition engine. The flow regulator comprises a pressure detector connected to the fuel-air mixing chamber of the carburetor, said detector being capable of detecting an absolute pressure lower than a pre-determined limit. A control link between the pressure detector and the fuel inlet valve to the mixing chamber is provided, which link is able to close the valve when it is detected that the absolute pressure in the mixing chamber falls below the predetermined limit, such as when the engine is decelerating. In the case of a gaseous fuel carburetor, the fuel inlet valve may be located in the main gas inlet line, whereas in the case of a liquid fuel carburetor, the fuel inlet valve may be located in the idle fuel line.
Abstract:
In an internal combustion engine carburetor the idle mixture adjusting valve has a tapered metering portion disposed in the idle fuel discharge orifice and a separate closure portion engageable with a seat. A solenoid energized during deceleration moves the valve to engage the closure portion with the seat and interrupt fuel flow through the discharge orifice.
Abstract:
A vacuum relieving apparatus having a solenoid operated valve controlled by an electric circuit including switches which are actuated to open the valve and supply air to the cylinders of an engine when the engine throttle valve setting is for idling speed and the engine revolutions exceed that of idling speed.
