Abstract: A multi-valve for a cooling system of a motor vehicle includes: a valve housing, which has a plurality of inlets and a plurality of outlets and delimits a cylindrical valve chamber, the plurality of inlets and the plurality of outlets opening into the cylindrical valve chamber; and a valve unit, which is arranged inside the cylindrical valve chamber of the valve housing and is rotatable about an axis of rotation between a plurality of switching positions by an actuator. Depending on a switching position of the valve unit, different inlets of the plurality of inlets are fluidically connectable to different outlets of the plurality of outlets. The valve unit has a plurality of fluid channel structures which are offset from one another in a circumferential direction. Each switching position of the plurality of switching positions is respectively assigned a fluid channel structure of the plurality of fluid channel structures.

Abstract: A reed valve includes a first valve body portion that includes one or more inlet apertures fluidly coupled to a tapered second valve body portion that includes one or more outlet apertures. The reed valve includes at least one sealing surface disposed proximate the one or more outlet apertures and at least one petal continuously, reversibly, displaceable between an OPEN position permitting forward flow through the reed valve when a fluid pressure proximate the at least one inlet aperture exceeds a fluid pressure proximate the at least one outlet aperture and a CLOSED position preventing reverse flow through the reed valve when a fluid pressure proximate the at least one outlet aperture exceeds a fluid pressure proximate the at least one inlet aperture. The reed valve may be installed in an airbox assembly used with a turbocharged engine to reduce the occurrence of turbo-lag on acceleration.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing an engine poppet valve may comprise a forging operation, a diameter-decreasing operation, and a joining operation. At the forging operation, an intermediate member at which a valve head portion and an intermediate stem portion are made integral by way of a neck portion may be formed. At the diameter-decreasing operation, the intermediate stem portion may be inserted between/among a plurality of diameter-decreasing tools that have stem member compressing surfaces and stem member inlet surfaces formed so as to be progressively distant from the stem member compressing surfaces and toward the tip end and that are arranged at a plurality of circumferentially equipartite locations about a circumference of the intermediate stem portion, application at the intermediate stem portion from a base end portion of compressive forces which are inwardly directed in a radial direction from the compressing surfaces of the respective diameter-decreasing tools which have been made to come in contact with a part of the intermediate stem portion that has been made to rotate while being displaced in relative fashion in a direction along a central axis thereof causing the part of the intermediate stem portion to be decreased in diameter from the base end portion and causing a main body portion of a first stem portion to be formed at the intermediate member and also causing formation by the compressing surfaces of a stepped portion which is continuous with the main body portion, and formation, by an absence of decrease in diameter of a remaining portion at the intermediate stem portion, of a second stem portion which is broader in girth than the main body portion and which is continuous with the neck portion and which is also continuous with the main body portion by way of the stepped portion. At the joining operation, a stem end member having a same outside diameter as the main body portion may be joined to a base end portion of the main body portion.

Abstract: An engine head assembly includes a valve seat insert having a valve seating surface defining a center axis, and each of an inner peripheral surface and an outer peripheral surface extending circumferentially around the valve seat center axis. The outer peripheral surface includes an upper section interference-fitted with the engine head, and a lower section. A stiffness relief channel is formed by a relief cutout in the valve seat insert, and extends radially between the lower section of the outer peripheral surface and the engine head. The stiffness relief channel permits flexing of the valve seat insert to cushion valve seating to prolong engine valve and valve seat insert service life.

Abstract: An intake valve for a combustion engine is described. The intake valve has a head portion that is designed to improve the flow of air-fuel mixture around the head portion and into the combustion chamber. The head portion has a beveled or rounded edge at the top surface. The angle changes from the underside surface to the top surface are rounded to prevent separation of the air-fuel mixture from the surface of the intake valve. In addition, the underside surface of the head portion has a plurality of helical grooves that induce a circular flow to improve mixing of the air-fuel mixture in the chamber. The helical grooves also improve heat exchange between the air-fuel mixture and the intake valve.

Abstract: In an assembly of a hollow poppet valve and a valve seat insert, the hollow poppet valve's head is integrally formed with a stem end, a hollow part is formed from the head to a stem, and coolant is filled into the hollow part along with an inert gas. The valve seat insert is formed of iron base sintered alloy and obtained by integrating two layers of a supporting material side layer and a valve contact face side layer. The hollow poppet valve is formed of a material having thermal conductivity of 5-45 (W/m·K) at 20-1000° C. The valve seat insert includes the supporting material side layer having thermal conductivity of 23-50 (W/m·K) at 20-300° C. and a valve contact face side layer having thermal conductivity of 10-22 (W/m·K) at 20-300° C. This enables a valve temperature decrease throughout an engine's entire RPM range compared with the prior art.
