Abstract: To find compromises in the relationship between the component costs of intake and exhaust valves and the downsizing of an engine and the relationship between the cooling performance and the followability of the intake and exhaust valves and coordinate these conflicting relationships as much as possible. A hollow valve encapsulating coolant having a good cooling function is used as an exhaust valve, which is exposed to a higher temperature environment than an the intake valve, to eliminate a disincentive to downsizing. In contrast, a hollow valve that has no coolant, relatively low component cost, light weight, and good followability is used as the intake valve, which does not need to have a better cooling function than the exhaust valve and needs to have better followability than the exhaust valve to improve combustion efficiency.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing an engine valve intermediate product with a boss portion formed in integral fashion at an outer circumferential surface at an intermediate location on a stem forming portion. The manufacturing method may comprise a stem retaining operation in which an intermediate location of the stem forming portion is retained by a plurality of intermediate jigs removably installable radially with respect to a center of the stem forming portion, and a base end portion is retained by a base end jig. The manufacturing method may further comprise a stem enlarging operation in which compressive forces are applied from both ends of the intermediate product and the boss portion is formed as the intermediate product is made to rotate and alternating loads that cause tensile forces and compressive forces to act in repeated and alternating fashion at the outer circumferential surface of the stem forming portion are applied.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention may provide a multirow ball bearing capable of effectively dispersing a radial load while reducing a frictional force when an inner ring and an outer ring rotate relative to each other, and a method of manufacturing same. Multiple ball rows (5) may be adjacently interposed between an inner ring (3) and an outer ring (4); each of the multiple ball rows (5) may include balls (5a) arranged with prescribed gaps (L) therebetween and may be arranged in staggered fashion so as to be shifted in a row direction of the ball row (5) relative to a ball row (5) adjacent to the ball row (5), and the balls (5a) in each of the ball rows (5) may face spaces (LS) formed by the prescribed gaps (L) in a ball row (5) adjacent to the ball row (5), each of the balls being brought into contact with two of the balls (5a) that define one of the prescribed gaps.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a poppet valve 10 from an intermediate valve products is disclosed. The intermediate valve products have an intermediate valve head 14′ with a pressing protrusions 15. A peak 15a of the pressing protrusions 15 is located in a normal direction X2 of the seat surface N, which is positioned on a normal line X2 passing a reference point P3 set on a line segment K connecting a base point P1 in an inner side and a base point P2 in an outer side of the seat surface N; a position of the reference point P3 is set such that a relation between a length L1 from the base point P1 to the reference point P3 and a length L2 from the base point P2 to the reference point P3 meets a formula of L1/L2≤0.5.

Abstract: A friction welding method comprises causing an end surface of a first workpiece and an end surface of a second workpiece to engage in relative rotation while the end surfaces are in mutual contact as a compressive load is applied thereto so as to generate heat due to friction at a joint interface between the workpieces, thereafter stopping the relative rotation of the workpieces, and then applying an upset process pressure to the workpieces. When the workpiece end surfaces are brought into mutual contact, a compressive load employed is less than a lower threshold of a bend-producing compressive load domain within which bending of the first workpiece and/or the second workpiece would occur but the compressive load and the relative rotational speed between the workpieces are such as will cause the heat due to friction to be capable of causing plastic deformation at workpiece end surface(s).

Abstract: Each time a highly-viscous substance is extruded, a variation in weight of each cut piece of the highly-viscous substance is minimized. Metallic sodium (5) loaded in an extruder main body (3) is extruded from a nozzle (7) of the extruder main body (3) with a pressing tool (4) and, when it is detected that the metallic sodium (5) is extruded to a predetermined position, the movement of the pressing tool (4) is stopped and the extruded metallic sodium (5) is cut. In this case, an impulse (P) after stop is brought closer to a constant value until a load no longer acts on the metallic sodium (5) in the extruder main body (3) after stopping the movement of the pressing tool (4) by adjusting the movement speed of the pressing tool (4).

Abstract: This invention provides an improved variable cam phaser for an automobile engine equipped with a controller capable of enabling execution of a given phase angle varying command in a shortened response time. The variable cam phaser has two control rotors which are arranged coaxial with a camshaft and rotatable relative to each other under the influence of two electromagnetic actuators and driven by the crankshaft of the engine. The variable cam phaser also has a relative phase angle varying mechanism for varying the relative phase angle of the camshaft relative to the crankshaft. When the two electromagnetic actuators are simultaneously energized, the two control rotors are held mutually unrotatable. However, when the braking torque of one actuator is reduced, the control rotor associated with that actuator is rotated relative to the other control rotor to immediately start the execution of the command.

Abstract: [Problems to be Solved]In the valve opening and closing timing controlled by an ECU, since the responsivity of a phase varying apparatus becomes low and the valve opening and closing timing cannot be appropriately controlled in the state of low engine rpm, desired engine characteristics cannot be obtained. Therefore, it is a problem to be solved by the present invention to provide a method and an apparatus for controlling a phase varying apparatus capable of obtaining the considerably high responsiveness of the phase varying apparatus under condition of low engine rpm.[Solution]The above problem can be solved by a phase control method for controlling a phase varying apparatus constituted so as to calculate an estimated relative angle value one step later by the Kalman filter using a relative angle calculated from rotational velocity values of the associated shafts in the current step and a command value to an electromagnetic clutch in the current step, input the estimated relative angle value to a sliding mode controller as a feedback signal, calculate a command value to the electromagnetic clutch one step later based on the value of the feedback signal and output the command signal.
