Abstract:
A starter air valve assembly includes a valve body, a flow control valve, a rate control servo mechanism, and a valve actuator. The valve body defines a flow passage having at least an inlet port and an outlet port. The valve is disposed at least partially within the flow passage and is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The rate control servo mechanism is adapted to receive pressurized fluid and is configured, upon receipt thereof, to supply a controlled flow of the pressurized fluid. The valve actuator is coupled to the valve and is in fluid communication with the rate control servo to thereby receive the controlled flow of the pressurized fluid. The valve actuator is configured, upon receipt of the controlled flow of the pressurized fluid, to move the valve between the closed position and the open position at a substantially controlled rate.
Abstract:
A combination relay and check valve for use with a fluid actuated engine starting system. The valve includes a housing which contains a diaphragm connected to a valve. The valve divides the housing into inlet and outlet chambers. A lubricant reservoir is contained in the housing and means are provided to inject a charge of lubricant into the chambers when the valve is opened. Excessive pressure in the outlet chamber acts on the diaphragm to close the valve and means are provided to selectively close off the source of control pressure from the diaphragm so that the valve cannot be opened when the engine is running.
Abstract:
An apparatus for providing mobile electric power includes a power generation transport. The power generation transport includes an air inlet filter housing, an inlet plenum coupled to the air inlet filter housing, an exhaust collector, an exhaust implement coupled to the exhaust collector, a gas turbine, a generator driven by the gas turbine, and an elevating system configured to elevate the exhaust implement to convert the power generation transport to an operational mode, and lower the exhaust implement back down to convert the power generation transport to a transportation mode. The elevating system performs the elevating and the lowering without utilizing any external mechanical apparatus. The air inlet filter housing, the inlet plenum, the exhaust collector, the exhaust implement, the gas turbine, the generator, and the elevating system are mounted on the power generation transport.
Abstract:
Oxygen is delivered to a gas producer to gasify coal to produce fuel which is then delivered with more oxygen to a boiler furnace to generate steam and to form products of combustion that include water vapor and carbon dioxide. The water vapor is condensed and separated from the carbon dioxide. The steam is conducted to a steam turbine at a rate that enables it to operate the plant at substantially full capacity continuously. The turbine drives an electric generator. During periods of reduced load, surplus power from the plant is used for liquefying some of the separated carbon dioxide. Some of the surplus power also is used for operating air separation apparatus, to which the liquefied carbon dioxide is conducted to aid in producing liquid oxygen in excess of the oxygen requirements of the gas producer and furnace during the reduced load period. The surplus liquid oxygen is stored for use, after warming, in the plant between the periods of reduced load when the air separation apparatus is not operating.
Abstract:
AN AIR STARTER VALVE CONTROL SYSTEM FOR ADJUSTING THE TIMING OF THE INTRODUCTION OF STARTING AIR INTO CYLINDERS OF AN ENGINE TO BE STARTED IN CORDINATION WITH THE SPEED THEREOF WHEREIN A POWER MEMBER IS RESPONSIVE TO SIGNALS FROM A SPEED SENSING DEVICE FOR ADJUSTING THE RELATIVE POSITION OF AIR VALVES AND A CAM ROTATED IN RESPONSE TO ROTATION OF THE ENGINE CRANKSHAFT. THE AIR VALVES ARE ARRANGED TO CONTROL AIRFLOW PASSAGES THAT COMMUNICATE A SUPPLY OF STARTING AIR TO THE RESPECTIVE CYLINDERS OF THE ENGINE TO BE STARTED WHEN THE CAM HOLDS THE RESPECTIVE AIR VALVE IN AN OPEN POSITION. THE POWER MEMBER IS OPERATIVE TO CHANGE THE RELATIVE POSITION OF THE AIR VALVES AND CAM BETWEEN A STARTING POSITION HAVING SUFFICIENT RETARD TO ALLOW INITIAL ROTATION AND A RUNNING POSITION HAVING SUFFICIENT ADVANCE TO DEVELOP A PROPER STARTING SPEED AND TO RETURN THE AIR VALVES AND CAM TO THE STARTING POSITION ALL IN RESPONSE TO RESPECTIVE SIGNALS FROM THE SPEED SENSING DEVICE. THE STARTING AIR CLOSES ALL THE AIR VALVES EXCEPT THE AIR VALVE HELD OPEN BY THE CAM AND THE AIR VALVES EACH HAVE RESILIENT MEMBERS FOR POSITIONING SAME TO CLEAR THE CAM WHEN THE SUPPLY OF STARTING AIR IS DISCONTINUED.

Abstract:
A ballast excavation chain arrangement includes a polygonal chain guide and an endless ballast excavation link chain supported therein. The lower portions of two longitudinally extending guide sections are connected to respective ends of a transversely extending guide section and the latter guide section and a portion of the link chain is mounted for extension transversely of, and below, the track for excavating ballast. Hydraulic drives are provided for laterally adjusting at least the lower portions of the longitudinally extending guide sections for selectively extending the chain guide to the right and to the left of the track.

A coordinated control system for a power producing unit consisting of two, single reheat steam generators supplying steam to a single turbine-generator.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a control method for the operation of a fan equipping an electronic device. A determination step detects the vertical or horizontal position of the electronic device. The fan is not started up during the powering up of the device while the device is in a vertical position. The flow of air produced by the “fireplace” effect in the device in a vertical position suffices to ensure correct ventilation. According to an improvement the device has a sensor measuring the internal temperature of the device, whatever the position of the device, the fan being started up from a determined temperature. The present invention relates also to a device implementing the method.
