    摘要: A downhole device is configured as a selectable hole trimmer. The selectable hole trimmer comprises an upper sleeve affixed inside a body via a stop. A charge sleeve is slidable inside the upper sleeve to provide a pressure to a pressurized volume. A catch sleeve is slidable inside the charge sleeve to align a bypass port and a return port with a drilling mud volume. An actuator is fluidly connected to the pressurized volume via a port. The actuator is configured to provide a pressure to a selectable hole cutter of the body via an actuation port in the transfer sleeve and actuate the selectable hole cutter piston of the selectable hole cutter to move relative to the body, wherein the cutter piston comprises one or more cutters. A manual controller configured to operate the actuator in response to a dropped activation ball.

    摘要: This disclosure presents a downhole device configured as a selectable hole trimmer. The selectable hole trimmer comprises an upper sleeve affixed inside a body via a stop.     摘要: A hydro boring system includes a hydro boring head and a vacuum tube. The hydro boring head includes a fluid nozzle that is configured to dispense a fluid during a boring process. The vacuum tube is in fluid communication with the hydro boring head, and the hydro boring system is configured to pull air through the hydro boring head and the vacuum tube during the boring process. A method of installing underground pipe using a hydro boring system includes positioning a hydro boring head adjacent to a material to be bored. The method also includes boring the material by activating a fluid nozzle such that a fluid is dispensed against the material to be bored process and pulling air through the hydro boring head while boring.

    摘要: Continuous fiber-reinforced hard composites may be useful in mitigating crack propagation in downhole tools. In some instances, a wellbore tool may be formed at least in part by a continuous fiber-reinforced hard composite portion that includes a binder material continuous phase with reinforcing particles and continuous fibers contained therein, wherein the continuous fibers have an aspect ratio at least 15 times greater than a critical aspect ratio (Ac), wherein Ac=σf/(2Tc, σf is an ultimate tensile strength of the continuous fibers, and Tc is a lower of (1) an interfacial shear bond strength between the continuous fibers and the binder material and (2) a yield stress of the binder material.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for remotely adjusting the hydraulic horse power per square inch (HSI) of a drill bit. The apparatus and method may allow the nozzle geometry to be varied remotely without the need to pull the drill string outside the hole. This nozzle may include a body configured to be secured within the rotary drill bit, and a fluid passage within that body that leads to an orifice. The geometry of the fluid passage may be variable, and varying it may result in a change in the nozzle HSI; this may allow drilling different rock formations to be optimized in different drilling environments. Different placements of the nozzle, such as within the inner flow passage or between the inner flow passage and annular flow passage for controlling flow profile within a wellbore, a tubular string or a flow conduit, may be envisioned.

    摘要: A drill bit for forming a hole in a formation. The drill bit has a shank and a full face crown that cooperate to define an interior space that receives water or other drilling fluid. The full face crown defines a plurality of bores that extend from a cutting face of the full face crown to the interior space. The full face crown completely circumferentially encloses the interior space of the drill bit. A wedge shaped slot is defined therein the full face crown that extends longitudinally therein a portion of the cutting face and the circumferential outer surface of the full face crown. The slot further defines an apex that is positioned beyond the center of the cutting face of the drill bit such that the longitudinal axis of the drill bit extends through the bottom surface of the slot and into an interior void area of the slot. Further, a conduit is defined in the drill bit that is in communication with the interior space and with a portion of the defined slot.
