    Abstract: Systems and methods for interactive guidance of sewing activities are described herein. Many sewing activities such as threading media, conducting general machine maintenance, and sewing using a pattern can be difficult and may require multiple steps to be performed correctly. Through the use of augmented reality (AR), the technologies disclosed herein provide interactive guidance to a user in order to perform one or more sewing activities. The performance of these activities is further enhanced using sensor feedback which can reduce common errors associated with each activity.

    Abstract: A method is provided for making, with a programmable multi-needle quilting machine, a quilted border loop sidewall panel for a bed mattress or foundation. The method involves executing programming on the machine to run a stitch pattern having a repeat length equal to or greater than a length of a side or end of the mattress or foundation, and preferably corresponding to the length around its perimeter. The stitch pattern presented in the programmed pattern repeat length includes a “prime pattern” having plural stitch pattern elements arranged to provide aperiodic pattern element variation along its length, which length is also equal to or greater than the length of the side or end of the mattress. Once made, the border loop sidewall panel is integrated into a mattress or foundation such that the pattern elements are placed in predetermined registry with selected other portions of the mattress or foundation. In this manner, it is possible to form a desired, reproducible aesthetic effect with high production efficiency.

    Abstract: A sensing system for detecting motion of a bobbin used in a chain stitch type sewing machine using a needle on one side of a textile workpiece and a rotary bobbin positioned on an opposing side of the textile workpiece includes the bobbin being held in a bobbin case having a side panel forming an aperture. The rotary bobbin has a side surface with arcuate regions around a perimeter of the side surface. In addition, the sensing system includes the first and second optical sensors aligned to detect the presence of the first or second bobbin surface. The sensing system further includes a controller adapted to receive signals from the first and second optical sensors related to the presence of the first or second bobbin surface in the first or second regions and interpret the signals to provide the detecting motion of the bobbin.

    Abstract: Dual-motor sewing machine with automatic timing adjustment. In some embodiments, a sewing machine may include a frame, a needle bar configured to have a needle, a first motor configured to cause the needle bar to linearly reciprocate the needle with respect to the frame and into and out of a fabric, a first sensor configured to continuously sense a current position of the needle, a bobbin hook configured to function in connection with a bobbin, a second motor configured to cause the bobbin hook to rotate with respect to the frame, a second sensor configured to continuously sense a current position of the bobbin hook, and one or more motor controllers. The one or more motor controllers may be configured, based on the current positions sensed by the first sensor and the second sensor, to continuously and automatically adjust and synchronize timing of the first motor and/or the second motor.

    Abstract: A hollow pipe joint structure for a sewing machine includes a first hollow pipe, a second hollow pipe and an elastic member. The elastic member is sleeved onto the first hollow pipe and the second hollow pipe, and elastically squeezes against the first outer surface and the second outer surface of the first and second hollow pipes, respectively, to pull the first and second hollow pipes against each other, which makes assembly of the hollow pipes easier, quicker and no frequent maintenance is required.

    Abstract: A sewing system comprises a sewing machine, a camera that captures an image of a reference position for sewing, a robot arm that holds the sewing machine and the camera, and a controller. The controller controls operations of forming a first stitch position that results from stitching of the sewing machine, and forming a second stitch position that results from stitching of the sewing machine after rotating the sewing machine at a prescribed angle about a rotation axis that passes through a needle center position stored by the controller. The controller further performs calibration processing that calibrates the needle center position stored by the controller, based on each position of the first stitch position and the second stitch position within image capture ranges of capture images that are obtained by capturing images of the first stitch position and the second stitch position using the camera.
