Abstract: The combination of one or more phosphorus-containing flame retardant compounds as described herein with at least one brominated flame retardant compound provides an effective flame retardant additive for thermoplastic polymers without requiring the use of antimony trioxide. Flame retardant thermoplastic compositions are therefore provided containing at least one thermoplastic polymer, at least one brominated flame retardant, and at least one phosphorus-containing flame retardant as described herein. The compositions are useful for a wide range of applications, such as for electrical and electronic applications.

The flame retardant composition for expandable styrene resin of the present invention comprises at least B1) tetrabromobisphenol A-bis(2,3-dibromo-2-methylpropyl ether), (C) a zinc-modified hydrotalcite, and (D) a phosphoric acid ester-based compound, the component (B1) being contained in an amount of 10 to 98 mass % based on the total amount of the component (B1) and the component (D).

Abstract: An extruded styrenic resin foam may include 100 parts by weight of a styrenic resin; 0.5 to 8.0 parts by weight of a flame retardant; 1.0 to 5.0 parts by weight of graphite; a saturated hydrocarbon having 3 to 5 carbon atoms; and a hydrofluoroolefin. 1 kg of the extruded styrenic resin foam includes the hydrofluoroolefin in an amount of 0.05 to 0.40 mol, and the saturated hydrocarbon in an amount of 0.10 to 0.40 mol, a total amount of the saturated hydrocarbon and the hydrofluoroolefin being 0.30 to 0.50 mol relative to 1 kg of the extruded styrenic resin foam.
