Abstract:
A compound represented by the following formula (I): wherein R1 and R2 represent amino group that substitute at adjacent positions on the phenyl ring, provided that either of R1 and R2 represents a mono(C1-6 alkyl)-substituted amino group and the other represents an unsubstituted amino group; and R3 and R4 independently represent hydrogen atom or an acyl group, and an agent for measurement of nitrogen monoxide which comprises said compound.
Abstract:
Substantially pure atropisomers of xanthene compounds are disclosed. A variety of molecular biology applications utilize atropisomeric xanthene fluorescent dyes as labels for substrates such as nucleotides, nucleosides, polynucleotides, polypeptides and carbohydrates. Methods include DNA sequencing, DNA fragment analysis, PCR, SNP analysis, oligonucleotide ligation, amplification, minisequencing, and primer extension.
Abstract:
Long wavelength, narrow emission bandwidth fluorecein dyes are provided for detecting spacially overlapping target substances. The dyes comprise 4,7-dichlorofluoresceins, and particularly 2′,4′,5′,7′-tetrachloro-4,7-dicloro-5- (and 6-) carboxyfluoresceins. Methods and kits for using the dyes in DNA analysis are provided.
Abstract:
We have now discovered that unexpectedly compounds of the following formulae I or 11 can be used to selectively stimulate the death of mammalian prostate cells, including both epithelial cell and prostate cancer cells, and thus are useful in treating prostate diseases: wherein R and R1 are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxy, thio (SH), halogen, substituted and unsubstituted alkyl, substituted and unsubstituted alkenyl, substituted and unsubstituted aryl, and substituted and unsubstituted alkoxy, and salts thereof, wherein the dotted double bond between the ring carbons to which R and R1 are bonded represent an optional ring double bond. Preferred compounds of formula I include those in which at least one of the substituents R and R1 is hydrogen and/or at least one of said substituents is allyl. Specifically preferred compounds include &bgr;-lapachone (i.e., R and R1 both being hydrogen), allyl-&bgr;-lapachone, particularly 3-allyl-&bgr;-lapachone (i.e. R being allyl and R1 being hydrogen) and 3-bromo-&bgr;-lapachone (i.e. R being bromo and R1 being hydrogen).
Abstract:
A method produces calcium fulvate from naturally-occurring humus material, such as leonardite, or humic shales. The humus material containing solid fulvic acid and solid humic acid is mixed with water and sodium hydroxide for a first selected period of time to form a solution having a pH of approximately 10.0 thereby solubilizing the fulvic acid and the humic acid. The pH of the solution is reduced to approximately 4.5 and is maintained at the approximately pH 4.5 for second selected period of time thereby precipitating the humic acid as a solid while the fulvic acid remains in solution. The fulvic acid solution is separated from the solid humic acid. The pH of the fulvic acid solution is increased to approximately 13 with calcium hydroxide thereby precipitating the solubilized fulvic acid as calcium fulvate.
Abstract:
Systems, including compositions and methods, for measuring pH, particularly in cells, organelles, and other samples. The compositions include pH-sensitive fluorescent and fluorogenic 2′,7′-dialkylfluorescein derivatives and associated nonfluorescent precursor compounds. The compositions may permit ratiometric measurement in the excitation spectrum and the emission spectrum. The methods include adding a precursor compound to a sample cell, incubating the sample cell to release the free indicator, illuminating the sample cell, and detecting the fluorescence response of the free indicator.
Abstract:
Novel addition products of isocyanates with oxyalkylene-substituted aminophenol compounds as intermediates for the production of urethane-substituted xanthene colorants, particularly triphenylmethane derivatives such as rhodarnines, are provided. The xanthene colorants exhibit improved wax and/or oil solubility and high purity. The urethane-substituted xanthene, colorant features very good wax and/or oil solubility, and is believed to be relatively nontoxic. A method for producing this novel colorant is also provided.
