    Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for shutting-down a tubular reactor (1) for a catalytic gas phase reaction from a reaction temperature, wherein the tubular reactor (1) comprises a plurality of vertically arranged reaction tubes (2), an upper tube sheet (5) and a lower tube sheet (6) which each are connected to upper ends and lower ends of the reaction tubes (2) in a gas-tight manner, and a reactor shell (7) which encloses the plurality of reaction tubes (2) forming a liquid-tight heat transfer space (9), wherein, in operation mode, a substantially anhydrous liquefied salt melt (8) is circulated in the heat transfer space (9), characterized in that water (10) is added to the substantially anhydrous liquefied salt melt (8), obtaining a water-salt mixture (11), while cooling the tubular reactor (1) to a temperature below the solidification temperature of the substantially anhydrous liquefied salt melt (8), such that the water-salt mixture (11) is kept in a liquefied state during the whole cooling step of the tubular reactor (1).

    Abstract: An improved process can be used for the production of methacrylates, in particular methacrylic acid and/or methyl methacrylate (MMA). Specific embodiments of this process can be used for the safe and efficient production of these products from C-4-based raw materials, in particular those based on isobutylene or tort-butanol as raw materials. With this novel process, it is possible to operate such processes for a longer period of time without any safety or cleaning related shutdowns. This makes it possible to carry out such processes as simple, economic, and environmentally friendly as possible.

    Abstract: A method for producing (meth)acrolein by vapor-phase catalytic oxidation of propylene or isobutylene in a multitubular reactor including a plurality of reaction tubes, the reaction tubes each including a reaction zone filled with a catalyst including molybdenum oxide and a cooling zone filled with an inert substance, wherein a temperature of a heat medium that flows outside the cooling zone is lower than a temperature of a heat medium that flows outside the reaction zone, and wherein the inert substance includes an inert substance having a major-axis length that is equal to or more than 1.7 times a major-axis length of the catalyst. A method for producing (meth)acrylic acid in which (meth)acrolein thus produced is converted to (meth)acrylic acid by vapor-phase catalytic oxidation.

    Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a catalyst ensuring that in the case of causing gas-phase catalytic oxidation of an unsaturated aldehyde and an oxygen-containing gas with use of the catalyst to produce a corresponding unsaturated carboxylic acid, the pressure loss can be kept low and an unsaturated carboxylic acid can be produced with high selectivity. The present invention relates to a ring-shaped or columnar catalyst, which is used at the time of producing a corresponding unsaturated carboxylic acid by causing gas-phase catalytic oxidation of an unsaturated aldehyde and an oxygen-containing gas, wherein the outer peripheral edge part is inclined relative to the center line.
