Abstract: A stowage system for stowing a smaller boat on board a larger parent boat is provided. A well sized to receive the smaller boat is formed below the aft cockpit deck of the parent boat adjacent the stern. A movable cover assembly in the nature of a hatch(s) covers the well and sits flush at deck level when in a closed position. The cover assembly is movable to expose the well so that the smaller boat can pass through the opening when the cover is in an open position. Also, a skeg assembly with twin skegs provides an improved tracking capability for a powerboat and provides sufficient space for the small boat stowage system. The twin skegs, which provide support for inboard engine shafts, are symmetrically located on opposite sides of a centerline of the hull near the stern. Water flow tunnels between the skegs.

Abstract: A load-carrying modular structure assembled from 3-D structural modules constituting parallelepipeds with rectangular faces, the 3-D modules adjoining each other along said faces. The modules comprise reinforcing diagonal beams (RDBs) disposed along diagonals that connect vertices of the parallelepipeds. The RDBs form a 3-D multi-tetrahedron lattice whereby said modular structure behaves under load as a multi-tetrahedron structure. A basic 3-D module for assembling the modular structure has six RDBs along facial diagonals forming a tetrahedron. The 3-D module may have RDBs also along the other six diagonals and along diagonals connecting centers of the box's faces. The 3-D modules may have cut-outs and passages for water currents. They may have internal hollow volumes and controlled buoyancy, and may be assembled from shell elements.

Abstract: A floating playground includes floating modules which provide buoyancy to a variety of recreational implements. Rigid flotation vessels filled with foam provide buoyancy to the modules. The modules have a frame and plurality of posts which can support a variety of recreational implements. The modules float individually or can be connected together to from a floating playground with a variety of recreational implements. The modules are also mobile so they can be moved from location to location and interchanged with other modules to form a dynamic playground.

Abstract: A mooring system that uses combination traction winch/windlass units is improved by adding an additional fairlead at each combination unit location and by increasing the strength of existing combination units, their foundations and the foundations of associated equipment such as fairleads and turning sheaves. By these relatively simple upgrades, the mooring capabilities of the system can be economically augmented in those situations where additional lines are desired, such as in areas subject to tropical revolving storms. Normal mooring, when there is no threat of hurricanes, has the anchor and chain attached to the floating structure by wire deployed from the traction winch. When storm season threatens, additional anchors attached to chain run over the windlass can be added, allowing the number of lines to be doubled. The additional anchors can be installed if the floating structure is conventionally moored or if it is attached to pre-set moorings.

Abstract: A platform structure surrounded by water is disclosed. The platform structure is put together with hollow tubes passing through recesses and internal passages of inflated sacks floating on the water surface, so as to hold a stretched net underwater, thereby providing an underwater platform. The apparatus additionally provides above the water platforms in the form of floating inflatable sacks, which also serve as bumpers having cushioned surfaces in opposite sides of the underwater platform, so that sudden waves do not thrust the underwater platform users against a rigid structure. The apparatus is designed to be disassembled and compactly stored inside the trunk of an automobile.

Abstract: According to various aspects of the invention, a buoyancy apparatus, a buoyancy system and a buoyancy method are provided. In one example embodiment of the present invention, a buoyancy apparatus for drilling and production caisson is provided for use in deep water offshore well operations. The buoyancy apparatus comprises a central cell, and a plurality of secondary cells essentially surrounding the central cell and secured to the central cell; wherein the perimeter surface of the buoyancy apparatus is essentially continuous along the length of at least the secondary cells. In one example embodiment, rigidly connecting the central cell and the secondary cells creates void chambers. The tops, bottoms, and sides, of the void chambers are sealed for buoyancy or production fluid storage. In another example embodiment, the void chambers have open bottoms. Another example embodiment comprises a mixture of sealed and open bottomed void chambers. In yet another example embodiment of the buoyancy apparatus comprises non-traditional curved shapes, rigidly connected. In alternate embodiments, any combination of the central cell, secondary cell, and the void chambers provide fixed ballast, variable ballast, buoyancy, or production storage as will occur to those of ordinary skill in the art.

Abstract: A rapidly deployable breakwater is disclosed having a primary barrier containing liquid under pressure, and one or more overtopping barriers. The primary barrier floats at, and extends substantially below, the surface of the water, while the overtopping barriers are positioned on the primary barrier and extend substantially above the surface of the water, the combination being adapted to attenuate wave action in open water. The liquid in the primary barrier is pressurized to a level substantially greater than the pressure of the surrounding water, and such pressure may be maintained or varied during the period of deployment of the breakwater.

Abstract: The invention relates to a semi-submersible vessel designed to operate in harsh environment. The vessel has a twin-hull pontoon structure that supports four corner caissons extending vertically from the pontoons above an operational draft of the vessel. A pair of slender parallel horizontal braces connects each pair of opposing caissons, the braces extending in a general plane perpendicular to longitudinal axes of the pontoons. One of the pair of braces is secured between the forward columns and another of the pair of braces is secured between the aft columns. The braces reduce spreading and torque-induced forces acting on the columns, while not substantially increasing water plane area of the vessel. Each brace has an internal nullredundancynull feature, being divided into two independent watertight compartments to continue providing buoyancy to the structure if one of the compartments is breached. Station keeping is accomplished with a full dynamically positioned system consisting of a plurality of thruster assemblies mounted on the starboard and port sides of the pontoon hull.
