Abstract: A method of controlling attitude of a marine vessel includes measuring a roll motion of the marine vessel with an attitude sensor, and then determining that the roll motion exceeds a threshold roll where no corresponding steering input is present. The method further includes determining a counteracting drive movement for at least one propulsion device based on the measured roll motion and then controlling a steering actuator to move the at least one propulsion device to effectuate the counteracting drive movement so as to counteract an environmentally-induced roll motion of the marine vessel without effectuating a net change in heading and/or translation.

Abstract: A controller for a watercraft controls first and second marine propulsion devices to start moving the watercraft by setting a first default angle, a second default angle, and a default thrust ratio as a first target rudder angle, a second target rudder angle, and a target thrust ratio respectively when a desired motion of the watercraft is straight sideways movement. The controller determines at least one of a first correcting angle, a second correcting angle, and a correcting thrust ratio to reduce an error between the straight sideways movement of the watercraft and an actual motion of the watercraft. The controller corrects the first target rudder angle, the second target rudder angle, and the target thrust ratio with the first correcting angle, the second correcting angle, and the correcting thrust ratio, respectively. The controller repeatedly detects the error and repeatedly updates the correcting angles and the correcting thrust ratio.

Abstract: A watercraft propulsion system includes a bow thruster, at least two propulsion devices, a translation operator to command a hull translation movement, and a controller configured or programmed to, in a translation watercraft maneuvering mode, control the propulsion devices so that propulsive force action lines thereof cross each other in the hull, and to drive one of the propulsion devices forward and drive another of the propulsion device in reverse. In a standby state, the controller is configured or programmed to prevent the bow thruster and the propulsion devices from generating propulsive forces, and set the steering angles of the propulsion devices to translation standby steering angles. In response to the operation of the translation operator, the controller is configured or programmed to cause the bow thruster and the propulsion devices to start generating the propulsive forces, and change the steering angles of the propulsion devices to translation steering angles.
