Abstract: A thruster system for improved steering and maneuverability of a marine vessel when operating at relatively low, or wakeless speeds, such as in the vicinity of docks, swimmers or other obstacles, or when trailering, beaching or mooring. The thruster system has a modularized design adapted to independently control separate motor/propeller units located at various positions on the vessel's hull. Each propeller of the modular thruster motor system has its own relatively small, electric motor and mounting bracket, permitting each motor to be separately mounted to a location on the hull of the marine vessel apart from other thruster motors. The thruster system is further enhanced by an electrical control system for controlling each modular thruster motor system of the thruster system. In some embodiments, a charging system is provided that permits each electrical control system to be separately charged from the marine vessel's main battery.

Abstract: A steering apparatus for a marine vessel includes a central portion supported rotatably around a rotation fulcrum with respect to a hull, a wheel portion, a spoke portion that connects the central portion and the wheel portion, first switches, second switches near the first switches, and paddles operable to cause a thrust to be applied in a front-rear direction to the hull. The first and second switches control the hull in different modes. The first switches are located at positions where a marine vessel operator is able to operate the first switches with the fingers of hands operating the paddles. The first and second switches are on the spoke portion and have different heights in a pressing direction.

Abstract: A drive unit for propulsion and trim control of a marine vessel. The drive unit extends in use from the vessel along a vertical axis to a base plane normal to the vertical axis, and spanned by orthogonal longitudinal and lateral axes. The drive unit includes a first propulsion unit and a second propulsion unit arranged separated along the lateral axis and intersected by the base plane. The first propulsion unit and the second propulsion unit are jointly rotatable about the vertical axis, where the first propulsion unit and the second propulsion unit are individually rotatable about the lateral axis.

Abstract: A hands-free kayak steering system is a system that enables users to maneuver small watercrafts without requiring physical steering by the user. The system may include a bridging base, a first maneuvering mechanism, a second maneuvering mechanism, a user controller, and a portable power source. The bridging base supports the user controller for the user to steer the watercraft using the feet. The first maneuvering mechanism and the second maneuvering mechanism enable the system to adjust to fit on the watercraft. In addition, the first maneuvering mechanism and the second maneuvering mechanism generate thrust to propel the watercraft in the desired direction. The user controller enables the user to selectively engage the first maneuvering mechanism and the second maneuvering mechanism to steer the watercraft in the desired direction. Finally, the portable power source provides the voltage necessary to power both the first maneuvering mechanism and the second maneuvering mechanism.

Abstract: A trolling motor has a steering motor transmitting torque to a steering shaft, which is coupled to a lower propulsion unit such that rotation of the steering shaft rotates the propulsion unit about a steering axis. A controller is in signal communication with the steering motor. A foot pedal in signal communication with the controller has a foot pad pivotable about a pivot axis and sends electrical steering signals to the controller (and thus steering motor) in response to pivoting of the foot pad. A variable resistance device is coupled to the foot pedal and controllable to vary resistance to pivoting of the foot pad about the pivot axis based on a position, velocity, acceleration, and/or jerk of the steering shaft. Additionally or alternatively, the variable resistance device provides haptic feedback to a user via the foot pad to inform the user about information related to the trolling motor system.

Abstract: A controller controls a shift operation of a propulsion device between forward, neutral, and reverse, and steering of the propulsion device in accordance with a tilt operation of a joystick. The controller stores a control state of the propulsion device according to the tilt operation of the joystick when a switch is operated. The controller maintains the propulsion device in the control state even when the joystick is returned to the neutral position.

Abstract: A device for steering a trolling motor of a watercraft is provided. The device comprises a housing and a joystick attached to the housing, pivotably supported for movement from a neutral position in directions radial to an axis of the joystick. The movement from the neutral position generates a steering command for the trolling motor. The device has a transmitter within the housing and a processor communicatively coupled to the transmitter and the joystick. The device may further include a memory including a computer program code. The computer program code is configured when executed by the processor to receive movement data from the joystick, generate a steering command from the movement data, and transmit the steering command to the trolling motor. The steering command causes the trolling motor to rotate to aim in the steer direction to cause the watercraft to travel based on the joystick movement.
