Abstract:
The present invention discloses a train coupler structural health monitoring system. The system includes one or more sensors mounted to or integrated with the train coupler, a data acquisition unit for receiving signal or data from the sensors, and a processing unit for determining the train coupler's structural health based on the received signal or data. Inspections via the system can be performed in real time continuously or periodically while a train is in service. It can also be performed offline while a train is not in service. Inspection method can be either passive, where sensors collect signals without generating excitation signals to the structure, or active, where some sensors are used as actuators to actively send excitation signals to the structure and other sensors or the actuators themselves collect the structural response signals. The data acquisition unit receives signals or data from sensors. The processing unit processes sensor data acquired by the data acquisition unit and determines if there are structural changes or damages.
Abstract:
A spring-style railway hose support has a retraction-biased extension unit of a longitudinally compressible spring and a pair of oppositely directed internal wireforms within the longitudinally compressible spring. The internal wireforms engage respective ends of the longitudinally compressible spring, and a closed end of each is configured to allow it to project beyond a respective end of the longitudinally compressible spring. The retraction-biased extension unit is adapted to be directly or indirectly connected to a railway brake hose and to a railway car component that is positioned above the hose on a railway car.
Abstract:
A highway vehicle towing system includes a light railroad track embedded in a highway and capable of transmitting electricity from a power supply plant, and a towing tractor movable along the light railroad track to tow a car. The owing tractor has multiple pairs of metal wheels movably supported on the light railroad track, a motor, electrical wires connecting the metal wheels to the motor for transmitting electricity from the light railroad track to the motor, a transmission shaft coupled to and rotatable by the motor, and a differential mechanism coupled between the transmission shaft and the metal wheels for enabling the metal wheels to be rotated along the light railroad track by the motor.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an automatic central buffer coupling, especially of the “Tlghtlock/AAR” type of construction. The coupling includes a coupling head, with a supporting unit underneath; a hydraulic and/or compressed air terminal for a hydraulic or compressed air line; and an electrical contact carrier arranged underneath the supporting unit and having electrical contact terminals; and an actuating device to longitudinally displace the electrical contact carrier via the air line. The electrical contact carrier is in an uncoupled position rearward of the coupling plane of the central buffer coupling, and is displaceable into a coupling-ready forward position in the coupling plane via the actuating device. In order to ensure that the electrical contact carrier is automatically co-coupled after the mechanical coupling operation, a release mechanism is configured to ensure a coupling mechanism is triggered to co-couple the at least one hydraulic and/or compressed air terminal.
Abstract:
A rail car mounting block assembly for electrical interconnections between railway cars. The assembly comprises a housing having a threaded opening therethrough adapted to receive an electrical plug and electrical cable. The assembly has a securing mechanism for attaching the housing to a rail car and the housing has a receiving means for receiving a connector of a lanyard. Further provided is a lanyard for supporting an electrical cable having electrical connectors at both ends and a combination of the lanyard and the electrical cable.
Abstract:
Apparatus is described for automatically mating a pair of connectors and protecting them prior to mating, which minimizes weight and uses relatively simple and reliable mechanisms. Lower and upper connectors (24, 26) are held in lower and upper parts (14, 16) of a housing, with the upper connector mounted on a carrier (32) that is motor driven to move down and mate the connectors. A pair of movable members (36, 38) serve as shields, as coarse alignment aids, and as force transmitters. The movable members are pivotally mounted at the bottom of the upper housing, and as the carrier moves down it pivots the members out of the way. The movable members have socket elements (116) that closely receive pin elements (120) on the lower housing part, to coarsely align the connectors and to react mating and unmating forces between the housings. The carrier has a pair of plate portions (60, 62) with slots (64), and the movable members have cam followers engaged with the slot walls, to move the members with precision. The carrier plate-like portions engage follower members (82) that pivot open lower shield parts (44, 46) covering the lower connector, which is mounted on four stacks of Belleville washers (142).
Abstract:
This invention relates to a pivoted double handle self-locking mechanism for operating a valve. Each of a pair of oppositely extending handles is pivotally mounted on a socket member secured to a key that rotates the valve, each handle being provided with a gear segment that meshes with a corresponding gear segment on the other handle whereby rocking of either handle about its pivot by a lever connected thereto effects rocking of the other handle so that a lug on one handle is moved to a position in which it will not engage a stop carried by the valve body upon subsequent arcuate movement of both handles while in their rocked position in response to a manual pull exerted on the lever connected to either one of the handles.
Abstract:
A coupling arrangement in which a mandrel on one vehicle is guided via a funnel into a socket on another vehicle. The mandrel is notched and a spring biased lock lever is engageable with the notch to lock the mandrel in the socket. The lever latches in release position and is automatically released by movement of the mandrel into the socket. The mandrel has a conical part connected thereto which seats on the mouth of the funnel and control line connections are made by separable elements carried by the respective coupling parts and which elements are interengaged when the coupling parts are coupled together.
