Since the tire has the skin layer formed with the polyurethane resin composition and having an excellent barrier property to gases, the weight of the tire can be decreased, durability can be improved and quiet driving can be achieved while the internal pressure is retained even when the gas filling the tire is the air, and the tire is more economical than tires filled with nitrogen gas. Unlike other tires using other materials having the barrier property to gases to decrease the weight, no adhesives are necessary for disposing the skin layer. The present invention is a pneumatic tire comprising an inner liner, where the inner liner comprises a mixture of a vinyl-based polymer having a polar functionality and organoclay. In a preferred embodiment, the vinyl-based polymer comprises a mixture of a co-polymer of isobutylene and para-methyl styrene. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the co-polymer is halogenated. The present invention is also a process for making a pneumatic tire, comprising the steps of placing the above-described inner liner in the interior of a tire, stretching the inner liner, and heating the assemblage. In another embodiment of the invention, the inner liner is exposed to water as it is heated.

A tyre for a vehicle wheel includes a carcass structure, a pair of inextensible annular structures, a belt structure, a tread band, a pair of sidewalls, and at least one coating layer. The carcass structure includes at least one carcass ply shaped in a substantially-toroidal configuration and is engaged, by opposite circumferential edges, to the inextensible annular structures. The belt structure includes at least one belt strip applied in a circumferentially-external position relative to the carcass structure. The tread band is circumferentially superimposed on the belt structure. The sidewalls are applied to opposite sides of the carcass structure. The at least one coating layer includes crosslinked elastomeric material placed in a radially-internal position relative to the at least one carcass ply. The at least one coating layer is obtained by crosslinking at least one elastomer comprising hydrolyzable silane groups. A related process for producing the tyre is also disclosed.
