Abstract:
A guide for a blade of a bandsaw includes a head and two molded, replaceable shoes that constrain the blade. Each shoe is symmetrical, having four side faces as a thick diamond-shaped frictional border for blade contact. The back of the shoe is a replica of the front. Internal sides of each diamond profile have a resilient web having strips that reversibly lock with grooves against a parallelogram raised from the head surface to retain the shoe carry rubbing forces from the blade. The shoe may be removed, turned through 180 degrees, or flipped over.
Abstract:
A controller of a cutting apparatus includes: a storage section configured to preliminarily store as a threshold an arbitrary value based on a load current value of a motor detected when a cutting blade is rotated at a predetermined rotational speed while supplying a predetermined quantity of cutting water in a state in which a cutting water supply nozzle is positioned in an appropriate position; and a judgment section configured to judge normality or abnormality according to the result of comparison between a load current value detected when the cutting blade is rotated at the predetermined rotational speed while supplying the predetermined quantity of cutting water and the threshold stored in the storage section.

Abstract:
A band saw blade guide includes a cylindrical chisel shaped member mounted at an oblique angle to a band saw blade. The blade guide adjusts the angle of the band saw blade by rotation of the guide about its axis. By rotating the guide about its axis, the angle of the chisel point guiding surface is changed thereby changing the angle of the blade. Further the blade may be guided by a single guide forced against one surface of the blade thereby eliminating the need for guides on both sides of the blade.
Abstract:
A wire guide roll for use in wire saws for simultaneously slicing a multiplicity of wafers from a cylindrical workpiece is provided with a coating having a thickness of at least 2 mm and at most 7.5 mm of a material which has a Shore A hardness of at least 60 and at most 99, and which contains a multiplicity of grooves through which the sawing wire is guided, the grooves each having a curved groove base with a radius of curvature which is 0.25-1.6 times the sawing wire diameter, and an aperture angle of 60-130°. A multiplicity of wafers are simultaneously sliced from a cylindrical workpiece by means of a wire saw using such wire guide rolls.
Abstract:
A carpenter's saw bench is composed of a base and a rotary platform pivoted to the bottom of the base. The rotary platform is provided at both ends thereof with a guide rod set which is in turn provided with a handsaw guide member. The handsaw guide member is provided in the top thereof with a saw bow guide slot for receiving a saw bow of a handsaw, and in the bottom thereof with a saw blade receiving slot for receiving a saw blade of the handsaw. The handsaw guide member is provided in the top thereof with an indentation in communication with the saw bow guide slot, and in the bottom thereof with a slit in communication with the saw blade receiving slot. The handsaw can be detachably fastened with the handsaw guide members such that the handsaw can be separated from the saw bench to allow the handsaw to be used independently as an ordinary handsaw.
Abstract:
A saw having a self-pumped hydrodynamic blade guide or bearing for retaining the saw blade in a centered position in the saw kerf (width of cut made by the saw). The hydrodynamic blade guide or bearing utilizes pockets or grooves incorporated into the sides of the blade. The saw kerf in the workpiece provides the guide or bearing stator surface. Both sides of the blade entrain cutting fluid as the blade enters the kerf in the workpiece, and the trapped fluid provides pressure between the blade and the workpiece as an inverse function of the gap between the blade surface and the workpiece surface. If the blade wanders from the center of the kerf, then one gap will increase and one gap will decrease and the consequent pressure difference between the two sides of the blade will cause the blade to re-center itself in the kerf. Saws using the hydrodynamic blade guide or bearing have particular application in slicing slabs from boules of single crystal materials, for example, as well as for cutting other difficult to saw materials such as ceramics, glass, and brittle composite materials.
Abstract:
A machine is described for cutting large diameter wound logs of paper or similar web material such as toilet tissue and the like into relatively small discs for use specially in institutional dispensers. The machine includes a cradle and transport means for inserting a large diameter log of paper into a gripper which holds the log securely and stationary while a band saw cuts the discs of paper from the log. The gripper includes a ring through which the log passes, said ring including a plurality of radially movable plungers which support and retain the log within the ring while the band saw is cutting a disc from the log. The mechanism also includes an automatic guide and sharpening station for maintaining the sharpness of the band saw and, furthermore, includes a support and discharge mechanism for removing the discs of paper from the gripper.
Abstract:
A band saw wheel and blade combination including a pulley having a peripheral groove and a tire mated with and received within the groove. The tire has an inner diameter greater than the inner diameter of the groove to be free floating within the groove. The band saw blade is received against the outside surface of the tire and forces the tire into the groove. As a result, a firm frictional contact between the tire and the pulley and between the band saw blade and the tire is achieved to provide a strong driving force of the blade by the pulley.
Abstract:
A pulley wheel mounting device for use with a continuous band saw blade trained over a plurality of band wheels. The adjustable mounting means supports at least one of the band wheels on the frame for rotation about a horizontal axis of rotation and for adjusting the vertical plane of alignment of said wheel about a generally horizontal diameter thereof. The mounting means includes a cylindrical trunnion and cradle assembly with an eccentric adjustment shaft engaged with a headed bolt supporting the trunnion, cradle and band wheel.
