    Abstract: A twin injection molding machine includes: a mold clamping device configured to clamp a mold; and first and second injection devices each including: a heating cylinder; a screw disposed in the heating cylinder; and a screw driving device including driving system components and configured to drive the screw. The first and second injection devices are disposed symmetrically with respect to a machine center line of the mold clamping device. The driving system components provided in the screw driving device of the first injection device and the driving system components provided in the screw driving device of the second injection device are each disposed on a side away from the machine center line in the respective screw driving devices.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a diecasting method and a diecasting nozzle system (10) for use in a hot-chamber system (1) for the diecasting of metal melt (4), comprising a hot-chamber diecasting machine (2) with a casting vessel (3) and a melt distributor (20), which distributes the melt (4) from a machine nozzle (7) among uniformly heated diecasting nozzles (40). Arranged between a sprue region (42) of the diecasting nozzles (40) and the casting vessel (3) is at least one nonreturn valve (48), which prevents the melt (4) from flowing back from the sprue region (42) in the direction of the casting vessel (3). According to the invention, the nonreturn valve (48) is respectively arranged between the sprue region (42) of at least the upper diecasting nozzles (40) and a final branch of melt runners (22) in the melt distributor (20) to each of the diecasting nozzles (40).

    Abstract: A molten metal pump assembly and method to fill complex molds with molten metal, such as aluminum. The pump assembly includes an elongated shaft connecting a motor to an impeller. The impeller is housed within a chamber of a base member such that rotation of the impeller draws molten metal into the chamber at an inlet and forces molten aluminum through an outlet. A first bearing is adapted to support the rotation of the impeller at a first radial edge and a second bearing adapted to support the rotation of the impeller at a second radial edge. A bypass gap is interposed between the second bearing and the second radial edge. Molten metal leaks through the bypass gap at a predetermined rate to manipulate a flow rate and a head pressure of the molten metal such that precise control of the flow rate is achieved.

    Abstract: A system (5) and method (800) for unit cell casting of titanium or titanium-alloys is disclosed herein. The system (5) comprises an external chamber (45), a crucible (10) positioned within the external chamber (45), an induction coil (15) positioned around the crucible, an internal chamber (40) positioned within the external chamber (45), and a mold (30) positioned within the internal chamber (40). The external chamber (45) is evacuated and a pressurized gas is injected into the evacuated external chamber (45) to create a pressurized external chamber (45). An ingot (20) is melted within the crucible utilizing induction heating generated by the induction coil (15). The internal chamber (40) is evacuated to create an evacuated internal chamber (40). The titanium alloy material of the ingot (20) is completely transferred into the mold (30) from the crucible (10) using a pressure differential created between the external chamber (45) and the internal chamber (40).

    Abstract: A die casting and a method for die casting a metal having a melting temperature of at least 1500° F. (815° C.) are disclosed. A molten volume of metal is injected to a casting die which includes a main cavity corresponding to an as-cast structure, a first reservoir, and a first runner arrangement. The first runner arrangement is configured to fluidly communicate molten metal between the first reservoir and the main cavity. After the injecting step, the casting die is sealed. The injected molten volume of metal is equiaxially solidified generally from a first portion of the main cavity distal to the first reservoir toward a second portion of the main cavity proximal to the first reservoir. During the equiaxial solidifying step, the main cavity is backfilled with at least a portion of the injected molten volume via the first runner arrangement.

    Abstract: A sleeve (10) allows flow against gravity of molten metal into a casting mold. The sleeve has a sleeve body (20) with a longitudinal axis that defines a flow conduit for the metal. A check valve (30) is positioned in the flow conduit, arranged for limited axial movement in the sleeve between a closed position and an open position, although it is operatively positioned to be in the closed position in the absence of the pressurized metal. The check valve has a spool (32) with an internal flow conduit, a top end of the conduit blocked by an end cap (40). Flanges (36, 38) on the spool provide the limited axial movement in the sleeve. When lifted into the open position, metal flows into the spool flow conduit and through a porous structure of the spool, causing laminar flow and filtering inclusions.
